as for the anime that’s airing right now, dangan ronpa 3: the end of hope’s peak academy is set into two different arcs: side: future and side: despair.

side future is set after the second dr game (super dangan ronpa 2/dangan ronpa 2 goodbye despair/sdr2) and deals with what happened to the survivors from the first game and a lot of people have been dying in another killing game of sorts.

side despair on the other hand deals with what happened to the second game’s cast before the tragedy happen and such (it’s really hard to talk about this without spoiling most of the second game tbh)

unfortunately, sdr2 never got an anime (due to the premise of the game mostly) so if you want to see it, you need to either play the game (which is on steam or for ps vita) or watch someone play it online. if you don’t watch it then the dr3 anime is going to be very confusing and spoils most of the second game.

also there’s a spin off game set between dr1 and 2 called another episode ultra despair girls which deals with makoto’s younger sister (and is important for side future’s plot) and there’s the novel dangan ronpa zero which is important for side despair’s plot (mostly backstory for hope’s peak and some characters, never released outside of japan but there’s a translation for it somewhere)
