Wanna know what's another thing I adored about the Superman (2025) movie? The way they revealed Metamorpho's personal life.
I didn't really know bollocks about him before this movie, except that he's with the Terrifics? So I didn't know he has a child nor a wife. Heck, I thought he was a single dad when Joey was introduced or something. Didn't think they would show us his home life.
But naw. When we see him after he escapes from the pocket dimension, it's not even a grand reveal or anything. He just back at home. In a very normal-looking, mundane house. He's on the couch with his baby boy... And sat right next to his completely normal-human-seeming wife. No big reveal. Nothing. Just an unspoken "this is his life. This strange-looking man with a strange-looking baby has a completely normal home life".
Like... Something I expected to have a big hullabaloo is treated as... Normal. Nothing to blow out of proportion. Here is a man and his family in their home. Watching the news together.
I dunno. Something about that really gets to me. "This weird guy? Yeah, he's got a regular life just like the rest of us" is what the scene felt like to me. Dunno if it's intentional or nah, but it seems to fit in with the rest of the film's themes about—and Superman's struggles with—"not belonging with humans".
Fuck no. Who gives a shit if you look weird? Who gives a shit about you having super powers? Or looking like an alien? We're all people in the end and we're all arguably the same—precious lives.
I could, of course, very much be overthinking it... But I loved it anyway. Didn't have to show Metamorpho's home. Didn't have to show us his family. They coulda just made his next appearance in Jarhanpur. But no. They hired someone to sit in as his wife, in a location that only appears for a few seconds in the film. Coulda saved a little bit of money by not doing that at all... But they did.
