As the air changed around him, Zitao stared at the female in front of him. her long blonde hair and light blue eyes only brought him one thought. He knew her, and even if he had not met her in a distant past he had still known who she was.
I think I'll try defying gravity.
"Em." he spoke, his eyes on her sea shaded ones, she smiled and stepped forward. He took a step back every time she strode forward. The wind blew through the streets, leaves dancing around them and it was almost magical.
"Zitao." She spoke, her voice was still as strong and everlasting lovely as always. He shuddered. "I am not happy to do this, Zitao." Her head tilted slightly, an almost apologetic smile played around her lips, her hand went up to her locks, binding it in a ponytail as she sighed. "When my little brother told me about your betrayal I almost couldn't believe it. I hope you are happy how you hurt our cause forever." Zitao winced, his metallic hand twitching. Would he be able to take her?
"I did not hurt anyone's cause, I just hurt people." Sarcasm could be seen in Emilia's eyes as she listened to the Naum. Traitor. He knew what he was, even without her saying the word. "Something has changed within me, something is not the same." He said, stepping back again, his heart skipped a beat. Was this it? Was this the moment he would die? Jamie had told her that he was here, he had told her that he was a traitor. "I can't believe.." He whispered, tears burning behind his eyes and he felt himself tremble.
"Are you scared Zitao?" She asked, taking her gun from her back. "I wouldn't be scared, I can end this. It will be my gift for old times sake, no trial, no imprisonment. No torture and no pain, just the end. I'll tell them you attacked me and that I had no other choice." She sighed, eyes casted down and Zitao hesitated. It would be easy, wouldn't it? To just end it, one blast and the end would be there. He knew the weapon she carried, it would blast a poison on fire, eating away his bones and burning the remains. All that would remain would be a light blue dust that would be taken with the wind. Dark orbs looked up to the sky.
"I am scared." He whispered. "I have been scared for years, scared I made the wrong choice. Scared because I know I have no home anymore, scared because I have no family and no friends." Emilia lowered her gun for a moment as she listened to the other, resting the cold metal against her in latex clad legs.
"Then why? Why did you leave? Why did you fly off?" She asked, the ixtab was not an emotional female. She did not dabble in those puny feelings that most males on this planet tried to link to the feminine gender. Yet she was not a cold-hearted bitch, and this male was the childhood friend of her dear little brother. While Jamie would not say it or show it, she knew it must have hurt him.
"I was tired of playing by the rules of someone elses game. Why can't we use magic? Why can't we try to work together with those that are magical? That are still able to reproduce? We have been abducting humans for centuries, ages and ages we have been cutting open their flesh and we are nothing closer to the solution. I am tired of reading history books that only tell me that nothing has changed. I want to help us, I want to. I did not betray our race, I just broadened my horizon. And I needed to join the Naum, they are not so different Em. They are just-" he hesitated. "They are weaker but they are smarter. They want to bundle forces, they want to find a solution with magic, and what if that is where the solution lies? What do the Ixtab have then? Only prejudges and racism."
Emily huffed and plucked a leaf from her hair. "We have not been raised like this, where did you get these ideas Zizi?" Wetting her lips with her tongue she put the gun back. "I need to think about this, if you are wise you flee and hide very very well." She nodded at Zitao and he smiled lightly.
"I have been hiding from the humans the past decades, I am not going to hide from my own kind too."
"You are a fool, Huang Zitao."
"Aren't we all? We dabbled in what not was us to touch and look where it brought us." He said and stepped forward, Em froze, her hand ready to reach for her weapon. "Too late for second guessing." He whispered "It was time to trust my instinct." He reached out and touched her cheek, her breathe stopped for a moment before slapping away the hand and glaring.
"No, not more." And before she would be tempted to blast the traitor from the face of this earth anyway she tapped her chest and the transporter made her disappear. Leaving Zitao alone in the desolated street.
And if I am flying solo, at least I am flying free.
