It’s getting a little easier each day adjusting to the temporary new normal. Bowie doesn’t give permission for the weight of it all to start getting lighter to carry, but time is doing what it does best. Eventually, it becomes a little easier to breathe, to move through the day without feeling like she’s surviving on autopilot alone. Not her most ideal circumstance. If she had it her way, River would be right here, close enough for her to reach out and touch them and breathe a sigh of relief. But things are happening the way they’re meant to. It’s not ideal, but it’s becoming manageable.Â
Bowie sits atop the front counter, enjoying the setting sun as she weaves together a little friendship bracelet. She’s making it to send to River, working on it here and there throughout the day. With the day winding down, her motions become mindless, her thoughts wandering while her fingers braid. The sound of the door chiming open breaks Bowie from her trance, her eyes lifting to the familiar face. Yas’ sister. What was her name again? Emira? “Sorry, we’re closed. Busy doing really important work,” She says as she holds up her little arts and craft project, a playful smile lighting up her face. “How you doing, baby? What can I do for you?” Bowie puts the bracelet aside and gives Emira her full, undivided attention.
