Rest in peace Swiftie Emily
Taylor Swift’s 12 year old fan, Emily Beazley, passes away after long battle against cancer Many thought Taylor Swift would simply be too busy with stardom and her upcoming world tour to call the Mt. Greenwood girl who had been battling cancer for four years. But the call came as the family was returning from a radiation treatment, which doctors were using to ease Emily’s pain. She and Taylor chatted for about 10 minutes, covering topics such as Taylor’s music and tour, and Emily’s favorite song (“Shake It Off”). Emily said the singer “knew all about me,” including the street named in her honor. The few minutes were the results of a community’s mission to make Emily’s dream of meeting the singer come true.
“She was just the sweetest thing,” Nadia said of Swift. Emily was starstruck, and Swift “really guided the conversation. “It was amazing. A very personal conversation. She said how proud she is of Emily for fighting so hard.”
Beazley had been battling cancer since she was 8 years old. She was diagnosed with stage-3 T-cell lymphoblastic non-Hodgkin lymphoma in April 2011. She finished treatment in July 2013. She went into remission, but the aggressive form of cancer returned. Emily’s family decided earlier this year to stop chemotherapy as doctors said the treatments wouldn’t help. Emily had aspired to meet Taylor, and Taylor’s manager had offered the family tickets and a chance to meet the singer at her Detroit concert on May 30. Unfortunately the little girl didnt make it. The mother of Emily posted a message about Emily’s passing late Monday on her Facebook page. “My beautiful Emily got to use her angel wings,” Nadia Beazley wrote. “She fought hard to the end. Her last gift to me was passing peacefully.” Emily’s supporters, known affectionately as “Emily’s Entourage,” won an effort to have the street her family lives on named in Emily Beazley’s honor. The city honored Emily with a Chicago skyline lit up in purple and green. The family has asked for privacy, though a public memorial is being planned.
