I have this headcanon that Emily lost a huge part of her memories after her death, hence everything that had happened before was confused in her head (in the movie she didn’t even seem to quite understand she was dead). All she knew was that she was waiting for someone, but she didn’t know who and why. When she heard Victor practice the vows, she suddenly remembered what she came here for and immediately thought that Victor was the one she had be waiting for. That’s why she wanted to be with him so badly. She only realized he wasn’t the one she thought he was when she saw him with Victoria, but still desperately wanted to be with him as she refused to accept the fact her time has passed. When she finally saw Barkis, she remembered everything all of a sudden and understood that she had been murdered by the one she was waiting for. Only once she rassembled all the pieces of the puzzle, was she able to make peace with herself.
