It took nearly an entire year to finally get a job at the Aquarium. Countless applications, countless courses on fish. Fucking fish. All he needed was a Custodial or Maintenance position, nothing more. After that, three months to gain the trust of his fellow co-workers. He wasn’t even allowed near where he needed to be up until then...
But, finally, everything was in place. He’d finally be able to initiate this plan.
Red walked towards the Merfolk enclosure entryway, a suitably sized pushed in front of him. He was nervous, sure, but he couldn’t go back on this. He’d already spent so much time, even since he had found out about this sick thing the Aquarium had done.
Someone asked him what he was doing there, someone on duty he supposed; without missing a beat he told them, “ They’re moving the Merfok to a different enclosure; a larger one. It’ll be easier if you leave; it’s alright, you can just go outside. They just won’t trust me otherwise. ” They believed him, leaving him to the current enclosure.
So, here he was. But... now what? How was he going to even get the attention of the Merfolk? He didn’t have anything for them to eat on him, and he doubted that they kept anything like that nearby. He peered down from the top of the enclosure, looking to the Mer below him.
“ H... Hey, you down there. ” Could they even hear him? “ Time to come on up. “
