I have to say, I am enjoying your manga liveblogs—I do like the manga for some things, but you are absolutely right in your critiques. I do really like the way you point out plotholes and pacing errors and points where the action is so unclear, because (as someone who wants to make comics) I feel like I'm learning a lot about what NOT to do!

I've always thought DoL reads like fanfic, too, although initially as a teen it's because I only associated gay characters with fanfic (and Mercedes Lackey)

ha, I mean - that’s also totally a thing. I can’t remember if DoL was my first “published fiction with gay characters” thing, though it was definitely an early one.

actually you know what I think Kushiel’s Legacy might have been my first fiction I read with explicitly gay (main) characters. heh.

I think if Azura wants to bind something, she’ll find a way to do it… but afaik the lore leaves it up to interpretation?

Word! That certainly suits her attitude (which then begs the question, would she WANT the Nerevarine bound to her? that is something I'm not sure about 'cuz I don't know the motivation--she doesn't seem the type to hoard souls like some other princes but maybe having a perma-champion, willing or not, is a good idea alongside the more happy-to-serve priests and such). Thanks for the reply!
