Love and bruises: The hyperawareness that comes along with realizing you are in love that lives in your whole body. The way that it makes even the most mundane things crackle, the way that anything that happens to you feels tender, achingly sweet. The way that if you press too hard, it hurts.

Love and black holes: The reality that you don’t know what lies beyond that horizon and you can let yourself fall and be changed forever by it, anyway. You can choose to create a glowing moment stuck in time forever, leaving an imprint on the universe that echoes out, and out, and out. Love in a singularity kind of way, in an infinite kind of way.

Love and thunderstorms: The way your heart feels ready to take flight when you stand on the porch to stare up at the gathering storm, while all the leaves around you flip the wrong side up like they’re showing their soft underbellies. With storms, you get to feel the crackling anticipation in the air, and you are always rewarded with a cathartic downpour. There’s a comfort and a freedom in knowing what you’re feeling is going to lead somewhere, that there will be a spectacular loosening of the sky and that you can go and stand in it if you need.
