Starting to get back into writing, do you have any tips how to improve the quality of your fics? Your writing is generally amazing.
Currently 1.6k words deep into an alexia fic and hate every word of it ðŸ˜.
Okay, so before I answer this, please keep in mind that I've been writing fic since I was 11, hehe, so there are a lot of years behind the writing style I have today.
I think my first tip is: READ .; You can't be a writer if you don't read or consume other forms of art and media! I know it may sound underrated, but I swear there's a big change when you start reading with the eye of a writer.
Lately, I've also been analysing the lyrical parts of songs, it's actually really fun, and you learn a lot of new words that way.
Don't be scared to write, just do it. Personally, I've always been very "fuck it," so when I started writing, I never really worried about people liking it or not. But I know some people do, and my advice is: just do it anyway. Reallyyy.
It might take you a few tries to really find your style and the writing process that works best for you, that's why you need to keep writing.
Remember: writing is a skill, not a gift. Everybody can do it; it just needs time, patience, and love.
I might not write every day, but I think about writing all the time. For example, this morning I noticed how I turn my palm around my coffee cup when it's cold, and I immediately thought of ways I could add that to a fic. Or I'll be listening to Lana Del Rey and a lyric will make me wonder like "hopw could I add this to one of my fics? what kind of story would fit this mood and feeling?"
Like the other day, it was raining on my way to class, and the river I always walk by was super turbulent; none of the usual animals I like to watch were there. That detail made me think about how I could write a character who's angry at the rain, just through little observations like that.
Anyway, I'm rambling now, but yeah: just write, research a lot, appreciate art, engage with other writers, and use Pinterest for inspiration too!
Also, I think hating your writing it's kinda normal. Sometimes I love what I write, sometimes I hate it.
