Sometimes the prospect presented to her, of growing up and getting married or not getting married, of having children or not having children, of meeting men and women on equal terms, yes, just of living a life, oppressed her with such a terror of her own future that she lay awake in the dark in a hopeless funk, trying to pray without knowing what for.
Elswyth Thane, Tryst
"'Doesn't it seem to you that part of growing up is to find some way of facing things and not minding--too much?'"
--Elswyth Thane, "The Light Heart"
It actually really upsets me that not many people have heard of/read Elswyth Thane.
This woman was blessed with one of the most beautiful writing voices I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. Her way with words is absolutely phenomenal.
Also, the way she has of bringing historical figures to life... Ugh, all the awards to her!
