they still kill and spy for coin, but now ilya has autonomy; they are doing this because they chose to continue. going back to their training means to ignore their wants, needs and feelings just to be useful for people that don't even think of ilya as a person.

ghost: Who or what haunts your OC? What happened? How do they live with their ghosts?

one might say they are a very poor assassin because of this, and ilya would agree, but they are haunted by some of the people they've killed. the major one is, of course, agate.

agate was a pirate captain that had a very.. tense relationship with the wrong people. she had principles and refused to break them which means she inevitably made more and more enemies after refusing to cooperate. it didn't take long for some of these people to find and hire ilya to infiltrate agate's ship, learn as much as possible about the trade routes the crew used and kill the captain. and ilya was planning to do just that, but everything went terribly wrong.

while they were pretending to be just another sailor desperate for coin, they not only found genuine friends among the crew, but also fell for agate, the captain they were supposed to kill. they allowed themself to live in the illusion of normal life aboard the ship with their lover for awhile, but the guilt became too much soon, and they disappeared without a word. nothing was that simple, however, since ilya was still "working" for people that refused to accept failure, and their response to ilya failing was harsh, both physically and mentally. tormented and desperate, ilya once again find agate and killed her in the heat of the moment, loosing one of their eyes in the process.
