first off, ralph is an asshole. or was an asshole when he first came to the island, he didn’t have a very firm understanding of simon or why he was the way he was and he was mostly being nice to him out of politeness and thought the kid was really weird and a little off putting.

but after some time had passed simon definitely grew on him more and more and ralph began to really genuinely like him and appreciate all the help simon gave him. besides piggy, ralph considers simon to be his only true friend (he’s iffy to call what he has with jack a friendship).

mostly... he feels guilty. he feels guilty that simon got hurt, and i don’t think he’ll ever be truly able to forgive himself for it. but he does want to be there for simon and make things good for him, even though he doesn’t really approve of his relationship with roger.

he gets kind of.. i wouldn’t say agitated because ralph doesn’t really get agitated with simon. he gets frustrated with him because he feels like simon puts him on a pedestal a lot.
