Miss D & Elia Rediger
See, my dear reader, I really don’t have to search for beards, they just appear in my life. I saw Elia Rediger when he supported Sarah Neufeld at her gig at the Michelberger Hotel last Wednesday. I didn’t know who he was, I just noticed a beard and another man bringing a piano to the backyard when I was hanging out at the lobby earlier that evening. When my friends wanted to get some food, they left and I stayed in the backyard just in case he was the support and would start while we were gone. He didn’t until after they were back. But yes, the bearded man, Elia Rediger, was the support.
The sound wasn’t so good, the box on my left side kept failing, lots of cracking and stuff but Elia’s music and voice kept shining through. It’s wonderfully odd. He sang about whales or being a whale and a song about revolution and I don’t know what else. There is something about him when he performs that made him look like a crazy music professor, especially when he worked with his synthesizer during the encore of Sarah Neufeld when they plus her drummer Stefan Schneider and another violin player Tobias Preisig improvised together. This probably happens as soon as he doesn’t have to sit at his piano and synth like during the last song of his set when played an orchestra from his phone and sang to it - that was maybe a bit questionable soundwise as well but somehow it worked out ok. For me it did. I’d love to show you some of the music he played that night but they aren’t recorded yet. He’s currently working on his own debut album and going to record the song with a 30 piece orchestra later this year. Already looking forward to listen to this album even if it takes a year or so.
Elis is not a new face in music: He played in a band called The Bianca Story. He works for theaters, is a studied artist. Here is an relatively old video which gives you a little idea why his way of singing is so interesting:
Yours sincerely,
Miss D
P.S. Thank you to the lady who took this photo of me & Elia.
