New chapter day!
Two days passed. The nuns had given Aya a room, she wanted to leave as soon as Bleis’ wounds were treated, but she had no idea where to go. Her house had burned down, and everything she ever owned was gone. The nuns had even given her new clothes as the rags she escaped with were in terrible condition. For two days, she had eaten more than she did in two years, and she could even take a hot bath every day. For a second, she even thought about staying here, but she was no nun material; her faith in the gods was questionable, and too many refugees were still coming here. In this vast kingdom, somehow she managed to run into her old handmaiden who else would she encounter? No, she couldn’t risk it. While comfort was alluring, being alive felt better.
No, Aya had to leave. She had figured it out once, she could figure it out again. Aya walked into Bleis’ room, hoping that Erole would be there. The human had been asleep for two days, and his elven companion would come and go, scouting and trying to find if their enemies were on their trail. As she entered the room, Eroel was not there anymore, but Bleis was sitting on the bed, his face having more color than it had in days. His dark eyes were filled with spark insted of foggy fever delirium. He had even shaved, the short stubble from his face gone revealing the smooth tanned skin.
“You are awake.” She had not expected to see that, all Aya wanted was to tell Eroel she was leaving and then just disappear again.
“Thanks to you.” The human smiled and pushed himself up. He winced as he stood, but this had been the most stable she had seen him since she met him. “You might be a spirit.”
Aya bit her lip and looked down at her feet. Her mind focused on the black skirts of the dress the nuns had given her.
“I…wanted to say goodbye.” She finally spoke, not looking at him. How stupid of her - losing her ability to even look at people when she talked. She didn’t feel like that with Nao, but even with the rest of the nuns, she avoided eye contact.
