#elementary asks

I’m so glad you enjoyed, friend! I love their relationship as well - Robles is very much a sounding board Rolly, which is nice when she has to go long stretches without seeing her brother Darren. 

Chapter five was such a doozy and I felt like there needed to be some decompression time after that with chapter six. And as someone who’s had those Big Dumb Feelings regarding a work crush, I wanted Rolly to take some time to talk through it. To acknowledge that a) despite what she planned, it feels bigger than she wanted and b) it’s okay to have those feelings and to be disappointed when it seems like things aren’t panning out. Robles is a safe space for her in that regard, and she’s one for him, too. And since he has his whole thing with Claire going on, I wanted him to be able to talk it out with her, too.

HAHA I love that you thought of Elementary Niall. See, I knew he was the perfect fit! Just seems to be the kind who would create a nurturing environment for people to enjoy and learn about music but also at times be so damn serious about it.

Firstly, it’s always a huge relief to know that when writing multiple versions of the same person, they don’t all read the same. The last thing I ever want to do is have my characters be too similar.

Now, to answer your question, which is, again, excellent:

I’d say the top three descriptors for Elementary Niall: introspective, charming, but a bit guarded. He’s a little different from who he used to be before he arrived at Wool Creek. Sort of closed himself off. But there are these moments where that Niall, the one he used to be, comes bursting through, like in his interactions with Rolly. Being around her and the gang at Wool Creek, he’s slowly being drawn back out of himself. I think there’s more to him than meets the eye, but when you initially connect with him, he’s careful about what you see of him.

However, Sangria Niall, to me, is warm, and sexy, and unbelievably kind. There’s a confidence to him that is lovely and honest and infectious, whether he’s onstage playing with Rookie Limelight or when he’s laying it down the way he does in sangria on your lips. Sangria Niall is very open and funny and desperately in love with his girlfriend, and while he definitely harbors some insecurities and worries, as anyone does, I think that overall, he’s a ball of self-assured sunshine. And whenever there’s a lapse in that confidence, he’s got Teyana to bring him back to himself.

Sangria Niall and Rolly would probably be great friends, I think. He would appreciate her klutziness and generally easygoing nature and I think they would get on quite famously. He’s very approachable and I don’t think he’d make her nervous the way Elementary Niall does, mystery that he is.

I need to take a moment to let YOU know that I appreciate this message more than you could ever know. 

Writing about WOC is super important to me because there is a serious lack of us in fanfiction. I could probably talk your ear off about my passion behind this whole thing, but I’ll spare you (and if you really want to know, if you go back through my ‘asks’ tag, there are some messages I’ve answered that do go into it) and just say thank you for appreciating what I’m doing here in this little fanfiction world of mine. Being a black woman and writing about black women is something I’ve made a point of doing with my works here in the 1D fandom, and receiving messages like this, from other women of color, shows me how much it truly is worthwhile.

I’m, at my core, a Liam girl, but Niall snuck in and shoved Liam aside so now I guess it’s like, I love them both? They can share my heart? They’re both my men and I cherish them. Writing about Niall is a more recent venture, however, and I was super nervous about it at first but it’s turned out pretty well. Both versions of Niall (Elementary and sangria) that I’ve written about so far are now favorites of mine, and I am enjoying sharing them with you guys so much, so I’m glad that even you, a Harry girl, can appreciate them!

I hope your studies are going well! Teaching is a ridiculously hard and exhausting job but watching that light turn on in a child’s eyes is pretty freakin’ cool. So. Keep it up and I wish you the very best of luck with schooling!

Hey, pal! HAPPY SUMMER! My school district let out on the 2nd so I’ve had a couple of really nice weeks at home doing NOTHING. It’s been so nice. I hope your summer is looking to be nice and relaxing so far! What grade do you teach?

When do you guys get out of school? My district finished last week and I have been enjoying my first week of summer vacation lounging around, pecking away at this little one-shot of mine.

Elementary was truly my first venture into Niall fanfic but I am so glad I took the idea and ran with it, because it’s been so great. I’m always nervous when I take on a writing about a new person - it was nerve-wracking when I first tackled Liam, and it was the same with Niall, but now I’m starting to feel comfortable with him as well. Writing sangria was a real treat, from start to finish.

I doubt Teyana and Niall will wander past this one-shot, but I said the same thing in my head about Liam and Georgia and Rolly and Niall as well and look where we are, so I guess never say never?
