Analogies of Control is an acousmatic work with a performance facet built in. After the full studio version was mixed, an additional mix was created. A three track work in which all of the non-cello sources (quick freeze metals) are separated and delivered to a performer via headphones.
In concert the audience hears a tape part of entirely cello and cello derived sounds, and the cellist playing an imitation of the 3rd track. Only the cellist hears the irradiated metals.
Consider the cellist a very non-black box. A very coloured speaker, or maybe a bio-analogical signal processor, if you will.
This performance, by Craig Hultgren, is particularly significant as many of the cello samples are culled from a recording he made of Parables, the first stage in this adventure in form.
