Le bonheur n’a jamais été le lot de ceux qui s’acharnent. Une famille heureuse, c’est une reddition locale. Une époque heureuse, c’est l’unanime capitulation.

If only I were she!
Ok. Listen. “Not to me, not if it’s you.” is a very fine and good moment but did you know that in his 1986 staging of Sophocles’ Elektra, Antoine Vitez had Pylades walk on stage CARRYING a sleeping Orestes, and then proceed to assist him in everything he undertakes without saying a single word, for the entire duration of the play ? Did you know ? Do you realize the impact this can have on a young gay mind ?

Okay since I accidentally stumbled into the very specific zone that is “too many feelings about Antoine Vitez’ last staging of Elektra” I’m just going to keep talking about it. Antoine Vitez staged Elektra three times (in 1966, 1971 and 1986) and each of those times the same actress, Evelyne Istria, played Elektra. So in that last staging, you can bet that she Knew that role, a bone-deep kind of knowledge that makes her acting amazing. Also, by 1986, Evelyne Istria is older than the actress playing Clytemnestra, and it’s so powerful, visually. Clytemnestra’s youth is the youth of the victorious, she’s rich and happy and in love, she hasn’t aged a day since she killed her husband. Meanwhile Elektra has aged and aged and aged, because of her grief and the hardship she’s been through and it’s... I mean just look at them :
Anyway there are so many things I love about this staging but Evelyne Istria is an incredible actress, her presence on stage is amazing, her voice was made for tragedy and I’m not making much sense so here’s a picture of Elektra reuniting with her brother :
fucking superb you funky little siblings.
