"I want to thank every American who participated in this election, whether you voted for the very first time or waited in line for a very long time. By the way, we have to fix that. Whether you pounded the pavement or picked up the phone, whether you held an Obama sign or a Romney sign, you made your voice heard and you made a difference."
I think this line is quite interesting. So he’s thanking the people that voted but he specifically thanks the people that “voted for the first time, or waited in line for a long time.” He then finishes off his thought with a breezy and lighthearted, “By the way, we have to fix that” and caps it off with a smile at the camera.
So my take is … Obama is recognizing immigrants in this country. The way, he slyly presents these lines that only have nothing to do with anything besides waiting in line to vote. But think about that for a sec, how long do you have to wait in line to vote, 15-30 min? It’s not like it’s a big deal or anything. So why would the president take time out of his re-election speech to talk about wait times endured, just for voting? It almost seems a bit out of place, that this thought has to have been placed purposely and with intent. “By the way, we have to fix that”, lets us know that he is looking into immigration reform, shorten those wait times for the international people that want to vote for the first time in an American Election, but have to put up with such a long waiting in line period.
