First drawn to Irish music by the charismatic singing of the Clancy Brothers, Dublin's Pat Mitchell later found himself drawn to the uilleann pipes. Â In the late 60's & early 70's, he would soak up all of the information he could from teacher Leo Rowsome, and pipe-makers Dan O'Dowd and Matt Kiernan. Â He'd learn from cylanders dating back to 1898, and from watching Seamus Ennis on television.
Pat would become involved in the founding of Na PÃobairà Uilleann in 1968, an organization dedicated to promoting the making of the instrument and playing techniques.  This album, titled simply Uilleann Pipes, was recorded in 1975 & 1976 in Dublin.  "The Maiden That Jigged It In Style" was learned off of Willie Clancy, while the second tune without a name was learned from a record of Tom Ennis' (Tom was a member of Capt. O'Neill's Chicago Music Club).
