3. what is your favorite all-time fic?

this is so hard to answer because i love and have loved so many very different fics, and it feels dishonest (?) to call one my very favorite when i love them for different reasons and in different ways. but qualifying it with ‘all-time’ makes me reach for one that has been a favorite for years: the pure and simple truth by lettered. friends talking, in many iterations. 

18. do you have a fic recommendation page or a master list?

the bookmarks page on my ao3 is the closest it gets (though it’s currently a little out of date because in the last month or so i’ve read a ton of stuff while traveling or otherwise on the go, and a lot of it has been amazing but i haven’t sat down to leave comments and add them to my bookmarks just yet). i also have a fic rec tag. 

23. has fluff ever made you cry? what about angst?

i’m not sure either ever has! i do cry at fic, but i’m not sure i’d say it’s angst that does it; i love to read about pining and brain problems and (whenever i can) both at once, and when an author is able to evoke a particular combination of heartache/loneliness/depression it hits me Too Hard and i cry and it’s very cathartic. 

28. who are your favorite fanfiction author(s)?

this is TOO HARD to answer so i’m going with the first three that come to mind, all for yoi: kevystel, daswarschonkaputt, and sixpences. i love fic that pulls me completely into it, and these authors are all amazing at creating an immersive experience, be that wrt the characters’ emotional world or incredible attention to detail in the worldbuilding. (ridiculously, i am not fully caught up on any of these three right now, but everything i’ve read i’ve really enjoyed.)

UNNECESSARY AMOUNTS OF OPINIONS AHOY:

I think auguste’s daemon was definitely feline (leonine, even) and in fact I think that was kind of a Thing for the royal family of vere. including the regent. whose daemon would be–ugh look I’m going gut instinct and saying lynx. 

so eleonore was all on track to settle as some kind of amazing, proud, clever, aloof little cat. a turkish angora, maybe? and then. AND THEN.

eleonore flipping bird was, depressingly, partly a reaction to laurent suddenly finding himself in the role of prey. and partly a strong desire to distance himself from his uncle and what his uncle represented. and partly a strong desire for escape. (laurent of course being just as much the titular captive prince as damen is, in book 1.)

(the regent is the one who started the rumours about eleonore’s slow settling indicating a fundamental weakness of character. obviously. to start his campaign of having laurent thought of as unfit for the throne.)

she only settled when laurent had made up his mind to fight back. to fight alone, if that was what it took. but to fight. laurent had grown a sharpness to him, by that stage. there was no going back from bird, but they refused to be prey any more.

also I like the far-sightedness aspect of a bird of prey for laurent. sharp eyes, looking at the big picture, missing nothing.

a pairing you didn't like initially but someone changed your mind: i thought i didn’t have anything for this and then remembered i used to not like harry/draco! and then emily @colberts recommended turn and then gave me a whole bunch of other recs and i fell very hard and fast 

a ship you never liked and probably never will: several sports anime ships come to mind, but the biggest has to be haru and makoto, both because i have almost no ability to multiship and vastly prefer haru and rin together and because of my own hangups about best friendships and one person reading and talking for the other person. 

who was your first otp: autocorrect tried to change that to ‘first top,’ just fyi. anyway…coming back to how i used to not like harry/draco, well, my first otp was actually draco/ginny! back when the books were coming out, largely in the period between ootp and hbp. one of the header options on dracoandginny.com is by me lmao

invent a random au for any fandom: this has absolutely no plot or drama to it, but: med student damen and linguistics student laurent. in boston probably, for my own personal nostalgia reasons. laurent is in his last year of undergrad and working his ass off and so is damen obviously, so they can only see each other once or twice a week. laurent lives in a dorm (a single, of course) and damen lives in a crowded duplex apartment with roommates, nikandros among them; laurent would rather damen came over but thanks to their schedules and the impossibility of both of them fitting in laurent’s narrow dorm bed he usually goes to damen’s.
