EF 60% in 2D Echo—Is It Normal or Dangerous?
You just got your 2D Echo report. You saw EF 60%. And the fear started instantly.
Stop right there.
EF 60% is completely normal. The American Heart Association says anything between 55% and 70% is healthy — and 60% sits right in the middle of that range. EF means Ejection Fraction — simply how much blood your heart pushes out with every beat. Your heart is not supposed to empty completely. Keeping some blood inside is normal physiology.
But remember—EF alone does not tell the full story. If you still feel breathless or uncomfortable, never ignore it. Always talk to your cardiologist.
