My next trip to a European country was to Norway in April. I was invited to judge the European Indoor Skydiving Championships being held at VossVind. The competition included Formation Skydiving and Artistic Events, which have different judging panels. During some of the Artistic competition times I explored the town and lake a little.
The view from my hotel window tempted me to venture along the lake.
You can see that it was still partly frozen, and the grass was still recovering from having been under-snow for a few months.
The town of Vossvangen, where I was staying is at the top end of the lake, where the river flows into it.
Walking from the windtunnel where we were judging, we would cross the river and enter the town. Walking through the square I saw this statue most days and thought “I’ll do some research on her when I get home.”
To my surprise, all I can found out about her is that she was made by Arne Maeland. I have no idea who she is commemorating, if anyone. Just behind her, along the street to her right is this house, which many others must have seen and also imagine it is where Pipi Longstocking lives.
Other statues in the town do commemorate people, those who died in wars and a local man who became a successful American Football coach.
