@eidolas sent: [ rainfall ] sender finds receiver out alone in the rain // from gallagher uwu
The rain drops are soft on his hair and face, the sensation made more intense when he closed his eyes to shut out all distraction from it. It falls rhytmically, too rhythmically - a small detail most dreamers would never notice - the sound, though fabricated, close enough to reality to bring about a sense of solace. It cannot wash away the sins or mistakes of the past but it can cleanse the mind, at least for a few moments.
It is a comfort he hasn't felt in a long time - technically still isn't feeling. None of this is real, but if something surrounds you every day, how short of being real is it? He spends more time in Dreamscape that outside of it lately, sometimes waking up uncertain where he is, but realization tends to find him sooner rather than later. Home used to have rain, lots of it sometimes, none of it at other times. It brought with it a smell he does not remember and a sound not quite like this; for it may be a perfect recording but a recording nonetheless.
Sunday doesn't hear him approach at first, quiet as he is like a shadow in the night; only when he moves close enough his footsteps echo from the pavement, the scent of smoke betraying him even through the rain. He opens his eyes, not exactly embarassed to be found here, but feeling distinctly perceived. The moment of peace - or whatever it was - is over, the time to return to a regular schedule here. He looks up at the sky from which the rain still falls onto his cheeks and clothes, but he isn't cold nor are his clothes getting uncomfortably wet. He hasn't been out here long enough for that, and yet, it must look messier than he would like it to now that he's in company.
Strange as it is for him to stand here, it is stranger yet for Gallagher to come find him.
"Even the rain is as Their dream mandates. Meticulously designed to appear anything but." Only now he turns to face those haunting orange eyes, abandoning this moment he believed to be his, his expression controlled but not unkind - although there is a hint of something swinging in his words. "Did you need something from me? Or are you simply taking a break from your duties?"
