I like to think think that Ace and Rudolf used to be good friends (though not friends (homoerotic)), but after the Japan Cup, it took a Rudolf multiple years to get over it and finally start reciprocating Ace’s efforts to repair their friendship (she still isn’t entirely over it, really, but she’s good at faking it, both to herself and others).
imo I disagree with this but also I don’t know enough about Ace and Rudolf’s dynamic to disprove it, so call it a disagreement of personal taste. (But also respectable hc!). I personally believe Rudolf will always have that grudge and viewpoint of looking down to a subconscious extent, and after her critical loss she has to digest it to a rough extent. But with Ace herself? A deeply wounded pride that she can’t let go no matter the years? Yeah. Huge agree. Ruining a pre established friendship? I’m not sure, the vibes for that one I’m musing over. Rudolf very much cherishes the Fuel CbAce gives her to her racing instincts overall though, so really who knows….
