it's like you staring down from atop the empire state building. it's completely empty with the exception of a table prepared for a romantic dinner, candles and all. you lean over the railing, knowing your beloved isn't coming because it's been hours and the staff has been telling you to leave but you refuse to leave until they arrive. you stare below at the empty streets and back up at the stars until you finally accept that they're not coming and a tear or two stream out of the corners of your eyes

but it's also like

when your on the roof of a building, eating containers of old candy that the local mom-and-pop store gave you because no one buys it and they needed the shelf space. you swing your feet back and forth over the edge as you continue sucking on an off-brand tootsie pop.
