when you’ve been playing a story-driven walking sim on and off for a couple days and finally find the sprint button
So I uh ... just finished Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. The eerie heaviness that this game leaves you with? First off, I'm a sucker for the "walking simulator" games, they're a nice break from the more demanding ones imo. Either way, this game was extraordinary. I do wish the walking speed had been a bit quicker, but eh.
Brief interlude for spoilers?
There are so many things I could yell about for this game but imma just keep it relatively basic. This game managed to unsettle and enthrall me simultaneously from the beginning. There's something about the disarray in the "shelter in place" concept mixed with the "it's like they up and left mid-action" that gave me the chills the whole way through. The sprinkled in abstract, cosmic horror of the Pattern is something I'm in love with. It was a brilliant take on the Pattern's motives not coming from malice but rather loneliness. I will say, the bit with the siren was the most unsettling bit, but that could just be my weird anxiety surrounding warning sirens.
Also let's not forget that the soundtrack is an absolute wonder. It helped project the atmosphere perfectly; like it carried this game I swear.
