  I don’t interact with egrets much, but this week there was great white that went back and forth with me. I was walking along the Carmel Bay when I saw it close to shore. This type of bird always looks “intense” to me whereas the pelican, for example, appears as though it’s about to laugh. In brief, I would get about 30 feet from this egret when it would escape to a nearby rock, but always one that was within this 30-foot range–most egrets would fly to a rock further out in the ocean. Finally, after the egret ended up sharing a spot with a sea gull, I left.
