hi it’s been a while since i showed some prototype stuff~

please ignore the not-so-good quality but this is a later scene at the beginning (the outline is so long holy shit), introducing mera! also sanity bar at 80% uh oh spaghetti-o 

if you look in the corner you can see it’s a little past noon when i recorded this which means i kept doing retakes for over an hour bc i missed one thing and then the video is too long and then i missed another thing, blah blah blah, so the text may be a little too fast? i’m sure y’all know how to pause though

progress on prototype y’all:

- 29 percy (outfit 1) sprites (9 of which have added stuff)

- 15 percy (outfit 2) sprites (2 of which have added stuff)

- 16 zora sprites

- 17 ramsey sprites

- 12 howie sprites

- 6 mera sprites

- 1 extra character sprite

- 2 cutscenes (4 & 3 frames)

- 7 bgm (classical music by chopin, debussy, beethoven, etc.)

- 10 backgrounds (they’re all flat color though)

- splashscreen before title (the way i animated it from before)

- 1 death

- 5056 words in script doc

- infinite pain of trying to do something that doesn’t work and then trying something else without deleting the original mistake multiple times to the point where i had to delete the entire screens.rpy file and start over

- a lot of hours coding (at least half was the above)

total gameplay time so far: 20:09

just some things about prototype that i think are neat

- originally i was going to use danganronpa (trigger happy havoc) ost as the music but then i thought, "wait copyright," so instead i'm using classical piano (arabesque no. 1, clair de lune, reverie, moonlight sonata 3rd movement, etc.)

- i think the game will span over 24-ish days, ending on 31st october. up for change

- someone goes to jail

- multiple people die but that's a given so i mean--

- as of 11:48 am pst, wednesday the 23rd of february, 2022, the script is 4,995 words (but that's including things like names & sprites, [play (music)] and [sfx: (sfx)])

- i did a test run gameplay yesterday and so far it's about 15 minutes in length

- a lot of manipulation & guilt tripping. like, a lot

- percy thinks food is grody

- howie LOATHES econ (economics)

- zora and ramsey are seniors

- percy, howie and mera are juniors

- other characters are somewhere idk yet

- a very, very rough outline was made

I just realized I never explained what exactly Prototype is.

Prototype (named after a lack of a name) is a fanmade fake visual novel based on Epithet Erased that is animated in Clip Studio Paint EX. It’s much, much darker than its source material, given it centers around Percy accidentally murdering a creep at school and Zora blackmailing her to help kill other people.

Percy also has a sanity bar that changes based on the story. It’s a static visual novel, so there are no choices. I guess in reality it’s more of a movie than a game since there’s no interactivity.

This is an incredibly toxic story that is by no means a healthy romance -- or romance at all, really. I only tag zorcy because it’s technically about their relationship -- a bad one at that. This game ticks off so many triggers that if you are the one watching, you need to be wary of. They’ll be listed under the cut at the bottom of this.

I am not glorifying or romanticizing these triggers, this is meant to be tragic. This is not meant to be jokes. This is not meant to be a “romance”. This is not at all a happy story. These are serious themes. Tread with caution.

Overall, I have no due date since I don’t have a deadline + I probably need to redraw some stuff + it’s my personal project. If I ever complete it, I’ll post it on YouTube and, depending on how long it is, will split it up into multiple videos. Very dark and throws the source material down a darker alley. Sorry in advance for people who don’t want to see these characters’ darker sides.
