Character design/Concept art of Edwardine’s pet, Leroux (named after one of the greatest authors in classic literatures, Gaston Leroux).

Keep that in mind that this is a pet designs of Leroux, even though it’s part of the concept/character development.

Originally, Leroux was going to be a ghost cat, just like Scary Godmother’s ghost cat from my fave Halloween films. However, to make him a bit “more original,” I didn’t want this story to overuse-duo like a girl and a cat. So I was thinking of designing him was an owl, just like the owl pets from both “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” and “Monster High.”

Heck, even like Hedwig from “Harry Potter.” So, why not? ;)

Now, for the designs;

1. The ghost cat design was referenced from the 1995 film, “Casper,” because of the lighting effects and shadow-core for a ghost. ;)

2. The second design is Leroux as a pudgy cat with half-lighted marking. The half-mark on his face was based off from Erik’s mask from the Phantom of the Opera because of his name of the author, Leroux.

3 - 4. After the cat designs, I changed him as an owl character instead. While looking up on owls as references from Google’s image search, I used the shapes and silhouette technique to design an owl character.

5. For the big design, why not mix both cat and owl as a combination? So I did. Here you can see the whiskers and a tail, while the feather ears are feline. I could design him as a griffin, but I’ll think about it while doing a concept art of him.

I know it’s a bit surprising to see Leroux’s pet design in different creatures. However, I think the best part of designing a pet is that you don’t have to use the same type - you can use different type of animal designs as much as you like until the end.

For example: In the concept art of “Treasure Planet,” Morph had been character designed many times as a different creature. Since the movie is a futuristic twist in 18th-century style/culture from the book, he was based off from Silver’s parrot, Captain Flint.

Anyway, there will be more concept art of Leroux, so I’ll keep designing him in my sketchbook.

Her dress was based on a nice dress from this site, while some of the colors were referenced from the Color-Palette-Challenge pic that I posted.

Another concept art of my OC, Edwardine. This time in different design. ;)

Her dress was referenced from a Classic Lolita Dress (but only one ruffled skirt).

Her fashion taste to wear are Lolita-related clothing because she likes vintage/Gothic/Victorian/Edwardian stuff. Just like Nancy Drew (one of the best role models that any girl could have for their future career), she likes old-school clothing while other girls wear modern fashion from Kid section.

Anyway, those of the designs of Edwardine, whom I created her like 5 years ago (Originally, she was going to be named as “Victoria,” but since I looked up the Encyclopedia, I decided to renamed her instead).

In an early process of the character development, the story was inspired by both Monster High and MLP:FiM to see kids in Monster world (but will make a different storyline if there’s a chance). For Edwardine she was supposed to be a ghost/polterghiest character with her ghost cat Leroux (named after the author of her fave book).

Yes folks, another ghost cat since Scary Godmother’s cat from the titled movies.

However, the funny thing was that the cat and girl reminded me of Nerdsman567′s OC, Marilyn, with her cat from DA. And the ghost characters(s) is familiar with Jackfreak1994′s ghost OC, Charlotte.

Yeah, I was a bit of afraid of that because of the “knock-off” thing. But hey, I like their OCs that I mentioned. And not to worry - concept art is concept art. So there’s plenty of time to work on the character design/development on Eddi.

Also... yeah, the colored version reminded me of the Twins, Sherri and Terri, from The Simpsons. However, her personality/character was inspired by Lisa Simpson, along with Sara Crewe.

Right now, the new skills I added her character is that Edwardine is Art History researching. She’s fascinated with Art History, especially the art museums. Which it’s while she’s studying with Art History in her personal free time, despite that she’s a kid.
