When I drive down the highway, my mind races as fast as the car. My eyes dart from window to window in the nearby buildings and I can't help but imagine the lives lived on the inside.  Too many windows. I still look, though, and I still long to pull back the curtains and reveal an entirely new world.    But now imagine that eyes are windows and that people are buildings. Buildings with only two windows and a mouth for a door. And so people are the same as buildings.    My only real desire is to be capable of fully understanding the reality of others, to be able to live in their world, enter their building. Inevitably I would find myself faced with a reality entirely different than my own. I wouldn't be in a room I recognize; I wouldn't be in a place where I feel familiar, comfortable; I wouldn't be home. I would be in a setting where I would feel alien.    This discomfort, though, is the method through which growth is facilitated. In order for me to grow and better understand the world we share, I must become alien.    But would alienation fix this? By learning about others, (an endeavor I am all but excelling in), am I losing myself more? Am I only a culmination of everybody else, influenced by varying cultures, beliefs, societal standards?      This is the beauty of our shared world. We are invited to step into each others' lives as often as we drive past an apartment building window. It is then up to you to decide how you want to present yourself to others, how you want to decorate this mental space of which you have invited others to share.    Individuality is not found in your outward appearance but within the way you process information and apply it to your life.
