Izabella Hayes is forced to leave the Winchester brothers to find their father on their own when Knox Taylor suddenly dies and leaves nothing but a voicemail behind.

Once the boys left, Izzy plopped herself down on the bed she shared with Dean and grabbed her phone from the nightstand. A smile was plastered on her face as she went through her voicemails, all of which were from Bobby, Eva and Ellie. There were several of them; unlike Knoxâs lone voicemail that came before everyone elseâs. She selected it and pressed the phone against her ear, flipping through the pages of the book on her lap for further research on the thing theyâre hunting.
The answering machine beeped before she finally heard his voice, and her smile widened just a little bit. âHey, Iz. Itâs me. I, um, I donât really have that much time but, uh...thereâs just...thereâs a lot of things I should tell you,â he paused, and her brows furrowed when she noticed the panic in his voice.
âI think Iâll start with that time my, uh...dead brother-in-law almost killed us,â he laughed at the memory, but it only worried her more. âIf you remember, he blamed you forââ he cut himself off, and Izzy heard him suck in a deep breath. âWell, anyway, he was telling the truth. I mean, partially. âCause itâs not...it wasnât really your fault. Not...not directly. Youâre just, um...â
âEverything I ever did was because of you. My world revolved around you, as a matter of fact,â he laughed again, and it stirred her the wrong way. âAnd, uh, I wish I could...I wish I meant that in a romantic way, or something. But uh...I donât. Thereâs just nothing...nothing about all of this is romantic.â
There was a deafening silence for a moment, and then he sighed. âAnyway, thatâs...yeah, thatâs all. My point is, basically, donât blame yourself for whateverâs gonna happen. And just know that I truly am sorry, and that I...I love yââ
The line suddenly dropped and Izzyâs breath hitched. It sounded like a collision; and at the amount of calls, texts and voicemails she received, Izzy could only hope that it was to let her know that Knox was alive. Badly injured or in surgery, maybe even in a coma â but alive. Hope was a very dangerous thing to have, though.
Especially for someone like her who has death as their shadow.
