Today’s Loudest MoFo In The Park: the #coaltit. Made the mistake of playing back a recording of it and this little guy went fully bonkers. Want to know something a little sad? These #commonhousesparrows are not so common these days. They used to be just everywhere, in big flocks, chirpy-chirping. The house sparrow is now red-listed as a species of high conservation concern. Their population in urban-suburban settings like my garden have declined 60% in the last 100 years. I mostly keep food out for these guys over winter. #edinbirb of the day: the #moorhen. This funky little water chicken has some crazy colours. An olive-iridescent back, red and yellow face shield and those mud-adapted toes! Did you know they can climb trees? They nest in them at night. One stood on my foot yesterday. They will eat anything including whole monkeynuts, she’ll and all.
