‘The Obsidian Gospel’ Track-by-Track 1/8
“Edgeguard”
The opening track on my new record was actually the last one written for the album. I wanted to write something heavily focused on d-beats, primarily thanks to utilizing them a lot in my band Ratpiss. The guitars ended up being a bit more melodic than I initially intended, but that’s just how songwriting goes sometimes.
The lyrics are a tribute to those of us who stand at the edge of the mosh pit, keeping the energy contained to one spot of the show floor so that those who have no desire to lose a tooth or an eye don’t catch a stray fist / spike / foot / other blunt or sharp implement to the flesh.
The solo on this track was written by my good friend Marshall who currently plays bass in D.T.. I knew this song would be perfect for his style after years of watching him play guitar in a number of different punk bands in Montreal. R.I.P. Stand Alone.
