I know you love talking about Han and Leia sooo what are some of your head cannons?? One of mine is that they’re both definitely cover hogs so for a while they were passive aggressively yanking the covers back every night until they just ended up having two blankets on the bed.
Thanks for getting in touch... HA! Yes, I will talk to you all day long about this stuff. :D My headcanons shift all the time. I’m very prone to borrowing great ideas from other writers (and freely offer my own to be plundered, if anyone thinks they’re useful), and I tend to pick up on certain elements of “fanon”, as many of us do, and adopt it as my own. Not too long ago, for example, someone (pardon me, I can’t recall who it was...maybe @lajulie24 or @jediofgrace??) shared the notion of Han making an indulgent purchase of a flashy new speeder, as soon as he was solvent enough to do so (post-Endor). That was instant headcanon for me, because it just rang so true with my conception of the character. Like, of course he would do that! Yes! That idea is now paired with Kelleher’s headcanon about Han’s post-war career, which I just love, and have firmly taken as my own, too. So I’ve got a bit of a patchwork going on in my head where H/L are concerned, and I “upgrade” my ideas whenever someone in the fandom shares something that rings true with me.
As for cover hogs...well! I like that old cliche about Corellians’ body temperatures being higher than the average, and I reckon Leia, being small, would be more susceptible to the cold. So I see it as more of an ongoing war over the climate controller. Leia gets cold and turns up the heat. A little while later, Han comes in, grouses about it being too damn hot, and turns it down. As soon as he’s otherwise occupied and Leia starts to shiver again, she turns it up. Han finds himself breaking a sweat while he’s watching a smashball game, growls about it and turns it down again. Finally (because I’m me and this is the way my smutty brain works), Han offers to heat her up in some other way if she will just please leave the damn thermostat alone. Leia agrees to this arrangement, trying hard not to give away the fact that this outcome suits her right down to the ground. They do this sort of thing on a regular basis and for such a long time that, eventually, the phrase “I’m cold” (coming from Leia) becomes a euphemism for “take me to bed, Hotshot”. ;)
Here’s another head canon for you: I don’t see Leia as a workaholic per se, although I do think she often gets utterly immersed in her work to the point of forgetting to do anything else. But for me that’s because (a) she just cannot stand to be idle, (b) there’s always plenty of work to be done, and (c) for a while there’s really not much else for her to do that is meaningful and productive. She’s on the run, hiding out on Rebel bases, trying to stay alive and stay one step ahead of the Imps; busy taking down one government and restoring another. She has the capacity for singular focus, too, and she is good at prioritising and Getting Things Done. So, she works a lot. But when things settle down...when the war is over and there are no longer any lingering questions over her relationship with Han, I think she’d want to find some balance. And I think she’d enjoy being “occupied” with Han, at last part of every day, as well as making time to spend with Luke and learning about their legacy.
Speaking of their legacy, I also imagine Leia would leave politics and stay out of government for some time after the war, mainly because public revelation of her familial connection to Darth Vader could be disastrous for her party/the New Republic. So, as much as it would hurt her to leave the NR in other hands, I think she would bow out (to protect it from any such fallout) and not return until the dust had settled (maybe 6-8 years down the road, or even longer). I think there would be great angst for her in this decision, but Han, Luke and Chewie would support her in it, as well as in her decision to go down the Jedi route, with her brother.
Oh, how I would love to write all of this up...! But alas, I must work for a living. Still, it’s fun to sketch it out. Thank you so much for the question! xo
