And of course the availability of potable water is becoming a strain in more and more places. We know that all the drilling and fracking wasted even more. The CEO of PepsiCo declared years ago that water is not a human right but a commodity to be paid for just like everything else. Water.
book recommendations for getting into ecosocialism?
HI so unfortunately i dont actually have basically any recs specifically for ecosocialism, the only book ive read with that in mind is "turning the tide on plastic" by lucy siegle. most of my ecosoc stuff comes from online, like tumblr (of course) but also chaities like SeaLegacy (and the Only One charity in general) & Amazon Frontlines
i was looking it up but theres nothing in those lists i could reasonably suggest since ive not read any of them. a few of them sound interesting though:
"too many people?" by ian angus and simon butler which is addressing the overpopulation myth
"green capitalism: why it can't work" by daniel tanuro, which is presumably exactly what it says on the tin
"planet of slums" by mike davis which sounds more exploritory than action focused
"this changes everything" by naomi klein which is apparently very highly recommended
ill go ahead and put a list i found in a reblog for convenience but unfortunately i dont feel comfortable recommending any book i havent read myself
however if any of my followers and people in the tag have reqs id be grateful for the plugs!
India changes its decades-old position on two-state theory, votes to deny observer status to Palestine body ‘Shahed’ at UN.
New Delhi: In an unprecedented move last week, India voted in support of Israel at the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to deny observer status to a Palestinian human rights organisation named ‘Shahed’.
This is the first time India has taken a step back from its decades-old position on the two-state theory under which New Delhi sees both Israel and Palestine as separate and independent countries, seeking to bring peace in West Asia.
The vote, which took place on 6 June at the UN, saw countries such as US, France, Germany, India, Japan, UK, South Korea and Canada polling in favour of Israel, while China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and some others voted in favour of the Palestine body.
The proposal made by ‘Shahed’ to obtain observer status in the UN got rejected by a 28-14 vote.
