It bothers me the way fans, or even writers for SW, treat Coruscant as exclusively being the domain of the elite, that the people there are all and only the wealthy and/or powerful, no poors allowed
Like this is untrue, obviously, from a common sense perspective, there is no way a world that is a planet wide city could be exclusively comprised of elites, and it's literally shown to be untrue, we see people who are not elites on Coruscant, people less fortunate, less wealthy, homeless, poverty stricken, we see the range of classes on Coruscant
It really reminds me of the way internet leftists/socialists/commies will declare that being from a place (the US) makes you a "privileged elite", regardless of actual socio-economic status, because you're in "the imperial core" (or some other buzzword nonsense), and therefore are deserving of suffering
Oh, and just for clarification, NO. The Jedi are not elites, you are fucking stupid if you think so

Ruby K. Payne is a teacher who thinks that middle class teachers often fail to understand poor children because they don’t understand that the poor operate by different rules than the middle …
An interesting article, via my cousin. Certainly food for both thought and action.
Ik ik it's been a long long 5 days and I apologise for the break.
I'm going to define first and talk about the merits and demerits of 3 economic systems : capitalism, socialism, communism.
Capitalism: Economic system in which businesses are not only run but also owned by individuals and not by state
Communism: The system in which the state owns and runs all factories, farms, services, etc and believes everyone to be equal. Abolished private property
Socialism: All people are equal and money, property must be equally divided.
Demerits:
Too much of anything is bad.
Unchecked Capitalism:
-> Exploitation of workers/employees.
-> monopoly
-> Concentration of wealth in few.
-> Innovation in profitable areas(baldness) rather than societal needs (maleria)
Unchecked Communism:
-> Oligarchy
-> concentration of wealth in few
-> lack of innovation as govt can stifle competition
Unchecked socialism:
-> bankrupt state
-> exploitation of hard workers
Merits:
Socialism:
-> Need it for upliftment of poor out of poverty
-> Humans should common together collaborate with each other and help everyone even the weaker ones so that the entire group thrives. "Community focus"
-> tries to diminish class structure
Capitalism:
-> Creates innovation, competitive environment
-> Generates employment in state
-> Customer choices
-> individual opportunity and fosters ambitions
Communism:
-> Completely eliminates classes
-> Guaranteed employment
-> no exploitation (ends exploitation of labours by owners)
According to Marxist theory: socialism is a transitioning stage between capitalism to communism
so i don't really listen to taylor swift much but i feel like i keep seeing posts making fun of the line
You wouldn't last an hour in the asylum where they raised me
because in reality swift was raised in a very upper class, white, two-parent household
but the thing is, the thing is, swift was raised in a very upper class, white, two-parent household that was absolutely devoted to her career success,
like, they moved the whole family 1000 miles away for her career when she was 13
personally, i come from a middle class background (top 50%, but not top 25% by household income), but i went (with financial aid) to a fancy US boarding school where i met people from many economic classes and social strata
and among parents who love their children and care deeply about their success, i would certainly not say that the rich households were any less of an insane asylum than poor ones
Like, in the poor households, you've got a single mom working a 3rd part time minimum wage job to pay for your SAT tutoring, and laying on the guilt about it if you don't work hard, which surely messes with your head,
but that single mom with three jobs is not going to be around to make sure you're studying/advancing your career and college admissions outlook every single minute of the day like the wealthy* stay-at-home mom is, and i'm pretty sure the latter messes with your head in its own way, too.
Also, while the poor and middle class parents will probably let you make your own way in terms of your friends and social life (as long as you're not running with a bad crowd or socializing so much it affects your academics),
the wealthy parents are on wechat talking to other parents trying to find the best camps and programs to get you optimal networking opportunities, teaching you to view social interactions in terms of their networking potential, which can honestly lead to some weird mindsets
(I personally had never heard the word "networking" until talking to some of these rich kids at school. We used to call it "making friends".)
of course, both the poor single mom and the rich SAHM are way better than the many parents out there who don't love their kids and/or don't give a shit about their kids' future careers and success,
and i'm absolutely not saying that having rich, involved parents who love you and want you to succeed is in any way a bad thing (these kids i'm talking about are overwhelming doing just fine, leading super successful lives, etc), but like...
it's not not a bonkers way to grow up
*wealthy here is NOT referring to the ultra-wealthy, 100 million+ net worth types, who know their kids and grandkids are fine regardless of school/extracurriculars/networking. we also had those at my school, too, but i never interacted with them

Imagine the world as a street. Everyone lives on Dollar Street. The poorest to the left and the richest on the right. Every else live somewhere in between. Where would you live? Visit Dollar Street and see homes from hundreds of homes from all over the World.
Site I found that shows what households look like at various incomes around the world. Useful reference for writing and whatnot.
This humble bridge, once a barrier between neighborhoods, has become a symbolic and a genuine point of connection for the town of Frederick.
In 1993 the Carroll Creek Bridge in downtown Frederick, Maryland was an ugly plain concrete structure. More than an eyesore, it formed a visible dividing line between racial groups and economic classes in Frederick. Local media called the bridge a “monstrosity.”
