In spring of 2012 I had read about a passive house being built near here in Knox county. A very heartening thing about the house was that the construction cost was low per square foot. The house is much smaller than the one we will build, nonetheless it was a hopeful sign that being green won't necessarily bankrupt us. As we got more serious looking for a general contractor for our work, I came across Christian Corson, the principal of EcoCor, who built the house in Knox. It turned out that he lives in Northport. Even better we seemed a good fit in that he is most interested in building the envelope and mechanical systems which will determine the performance of the house. We know very little about those technologies for very efficient houses, but we can and want to be responsible for the interior. We emailed a lot, followed by a long conference call from California and finally met Chris in person in Maine. Chris is young, energetic, enthusiastic, entrepreneurial and very knowledgable. We are looking forward to working with him and learning a lot in the process. Plus we will end up with a fabulous house!
