As a teacher I take tons of notes everyday and I realized that I used quite a lot of highlighting markers each day. Every few months I had to go and buy a new set of markers and throw the empty ones away and it got me thinking about an alternative. Then I stumbled across a post by @zero.waste.ninja about highlighting pencils and I knew I had to get a set for myself! It was very difficult to find them in a store and unfortunately I had to order them online, so it was a bit of extra packaging (but I reused it right away :-) ).

Pencil shavings are compostable and there is no plastic waste! Also they last much longer. Some highlighting pencils might cost a little more, than a set of basic highlighting markers, but it is a great "investment", that you won´t regret.

When I was little we used to have a drawer full of cloth tissues. I remember ironing them while watching cartoons on TV. Then somehow I got laughed at at school for my cloth tissues when all the kids had those little packets of paper tissues. And I felt like a loser. So I started using them too. Just for this simple reason. Big boxes of tissues started appearing in my house. Now that I think of it, there is absolutely no reason, because we still have that drawer full of cloth tissues.

For the past 2 years I have been using the cloth ones again. Some of them are 20 - 30 years old. And they work just fine.

There are some situations where the Kleenex is good. I get it, but if we can at least lower that number, that would be awesome.

Cute way how to reuse old wrapping paper is to make gift tags from them! I always felt sad, that all the cute pictures on the paper are used only once and then thrown away. In this way, they get a new life and a new way to shine!
