Some of my favorite moments across all 6 episodes:

Sara Bareilles beating the Bad News Bearers at their own game. She was so funny, it reminds me that I need to watch girls5eva… 

-Cecile McLorin Salvant’s “American Tune.” Like an aural assault to my tear ducts. 

-Every single time Noam roasted Chris. Every. Single. Time. Dude is still the funniest banjo player alive (Steve Martin’s okay too, I guess). 

Jacob Collier dueting on a Bach piece with Chris by playing… THE VOCAL CORDS?!?! I mean, I guess I knew it could be done if you have the patience to learn to sing the violin part, but… I NEVER would have dreamed of hearing something like that. It reminded me a lot of some of Bobby McFerrin’s stuff… which then amused me when Jacob performed a Bobby McFerrin piece later in the episode.

Every single episode opened with an old Punch Brothers song (performed with that show’s musical guest(s)) and a new Punch Brothers song! “New York City” and “The Gardener” were some of my favorites (then again, the former is my favorite Punch Brothers song anyway, so…). As for the new songs… I liked the summer and winter pieces the best. That being said, I was quite disappointed that none of the new songs had vocals. I don’t think it’s likely to happen, but I really don’t want Punch Brothers to become a solely instrumental band. 

-The closing song didn’t cut off by the credits! And having the guests play on it, like they did on each Punch Brothers song that opened the show, was a really great idea. Billy Strings’ and Cecile McLorin Salvant’s versions were my favorites (actually, I can’t remember if it was Cecile or if it was Sara Bareilles for whom they had to modulate up to another key, but I thought it was so great that they did that and it made that version really stand out). 

Billy Strings coming across as such a sweet and humble man. I don’t know much about him, but I think I love him.

My favorite guest to whom I was introduced was Amos Lee. His song “Built to Fall” impressed the hell out of me. Also, although I’d heard her music before, I came away with a new appreciation for Jesca Hoop. Some of the songs she performed gave me Joanna Newsom vibes (the best vibes). 

-THE CLOSING SONG FOR EPISODE FIVE OH MY FUCKING GODDDDDDD!!!!! Paul’s stupendous bass rhythm, Sara Watkins sounding sexy af singing in her lower register, the chorus that had me dancing as if I had known this song all my life and was hearing it again after several years… This was my favorite musical moment of the show, bar none! 

-Chris got the brunt of the roasting from Noam, but I loved the tiny little jabs that Paul got as well. “Kowert… Just look at him! SINNER!”

-The game shows! So fun and creative! Although I wonder how much of them were rigged, and how much is proof that Chris & his guests are just THAT good at improvising…

-“Sia Shanty.” I’m not elaborating.

-I really like that the Breaking Trad segment now includes a part where Punch Brothers give a sample of the way the song traditionally sounds, before giving their take on it. It really helps put what they’re into context.

Outro song from The Energy Curfew Music Hour, Season 1, Episode 5, performed by Punch Brothers. Every episode ends with a new, unreleased original- so new that its official title hasn't been announced to the public- which was adapted from Chris Thile's solo original "Vail Monograph, Version 2." This is the most complete version of it (although the end credits do still play over the ending of it).

A multiset hash function associates a hash value to arbitrary collections of objects with possible repetitions. Such a hash function is said to be homomorphic, or incremental, when the hash of the union of two collections is easy to compute from the hashes of the two collections themselves: it is usually their sum under a suitable group operation. In particular, hash values of large collections can be computed incrementally and/or in parallel. This makes homomorphic hashing a very useful primitive, with applications ranging from database integrity verification to streaming set/multiset comparison and network coding. Unfortunately, constructions of homomorphic hash functions proposed in the literature are hampered by two main drawbacks. They tend to be much longer than usual hash functions at the same security level (e.g. to achieve a collision resistance of 2128, they are several thousand bits long, as opposed to 256 bits for usual hash functions), and they are also quite slow. In this paper, we introduce the Elliptic Curve Multiset Hash (ECMH), which combines a usual bit string-valued hash function like BLAKE2 with an efficient encoding into binary elliptic curves to overcome both difficulties. On the one hand, the size of ECMH digests is essentially optimal: 2m-bit hash values provide O(2m) collision resistance. On the other hand, we demonstrate a highly-efficient software implementation of ECMH, which our thorough empirical evaluation shows to be capable of processing over 3 million set elements per second on a 4 GHz Intel Haswell machine at the 128 bit security level—many times faster than previous practical methods. While incremental hashing based on elliptic curves has been considered previously (Brown, D.R.L. (2008) The encrypted elliptic curve hash. IACR Cryptology ePrint Archive, 2008, 12.), the proposed method was less efficient, susceptible to timing attacks, and potentially patent-encumbered (Brown, D. and Yamada, A. (2007) Method and apparatus for performing validation of elliptic curve public keys. US Patent, 7, 257, 709.), and no practical implementation was demonstrated.

Al comenzar a investigar sobre la posguerra de Alemania, sobre la segunda Guerra mundial, siempre encontraras fotografías y videos de devastación. Durante la guerra y aun después, el país esta destruido. La mayoría de gente no tenían posesiones materiales. Las cosas mas valiosas son las que tienes en tu bolsillo o lo que podías cargar encima de ti. La sociedad buscaba recursos y los pedía de otros países por ayuda. Lo que te pertenecía antes ya no existe porque la guerra lo había consumido.

En realidad, la mayoría de la población tenia nada. Lo que necesitas es sobrevivir pero no solo necesitas abrigar para ti, si no que también para tus posesiones. Tu vas a ir encontrado tus posesiones durante tu camino, recolectando piezas dentro de las ruinas del país y dentro de ti mismo. A ti te importa proteger tu pasado, tus memorias y a las cosas que tu sentís que son valiosas. Que tienen significado en tu vida. 

  La supervivencia es la lucha para seguir viviendo y al mismo tiempo necesitas preservar las cosas que te ayudan sobrepasar los obstáculos cotidianos en este mundo.
