So I've been on birth control for 5 years now, for hormone imbalance and I was having a lot of really bad ovarian cysts. But I haven't been able to lose weight down to the size before I started. Could birth control be preventing me from losing weight? I am at a normal weight but I'm trying to trim off a little extra and I am working really hard so I'm not sure what is happening. Every time I talk to my doctor bout getting off of it, she insists that I stay with it because of my cyst history.
Also a background, I started bc at 15 when i got cysts and my period switched. (3 days off, the rest on) so it stopped but I feel like I was happier off birthcontrol? Sometimes I go a month without taking it but my period becomes excruciating to the point where I am in so much pain, I miss work and can't go anywhere. I am so torn because I feel stuck on it. All I want is to stop taking so I can be happier and lose weight but I don't want cysts and painful cycles. I don't know what to do.
Birth control can potentially make you gain weight, and it’s reasonable to assume it can make it harder for you to lose weight too. Hormones play a big role in weight gain and loss, so it’s possible that that’s your problem. You can try to get on a different birth control instead - not all birth control is the same.
[edit] Sorry, didn't notice the other half. Birth control can theoretically change your moods... but it's never been proven, it's just an assumption based on the hormones involved. But again, you can switch birth control and you'll probably feel better.
