You having front seat privileges when in Jason’s car or something.
Like maybe you’re going somewhere right, and you use a car for whatever reason blah blah blah and roy joins youse for whatever reason (maybe you’re going out for food or to a store or whatever).
And your first reaction to going to the car is something along the lines of,
“Oh, I’ll let you both go in front so you can talk together.” as like you’re opening the back door for yourself.
And Jason just stands there so baffled, and honestly looking genuinely offended and even hurt that you would even EVER suggest that. (And that you opened the door for yourself cause like what are you doing?? That’s his job???)
He’s acting immediately. You don’t even have time to actually sit down in the backseat, he’s picking you up, leaving the back door open for Roy.
“Get in the back, Harper.”
“Yessir.” You just know Roy’s got a shit eating grin on his face cause he finds it hilarious to see Jason riled up like this, and for something so small too.
The car door shuts with Roy inside, while Jason is still outside with you still lifted up in his arms. He’s looking up at you, still looking offended when he speaks.
“Why would you even say that? You sit beside me. Always, I don’t care who’s with us, you always sit beside me.” He has this big dramatic pout on his face, acting like your suggestion just proved you didn’t love him.
You’re giggling your ass off in his arms, feet still off the ground. “Jay, lovie, it’s just so you can talk together. We never drive with him and he’s your best friend, least I can do is let him sit next to you so you can talk.”
“Noooo, stoooppp, you’re breaking my heart, stop.” Queue intensified pout and frown on his face, he’s whining like a kid who doesn’t want to go to sleep. “You sit next to me so I can hold your hand and touch you and be next to you when I’m driving. I can’t do that when you’re in the backseat.”
“Okay, okay,” you laughing again, pressing a kiss to his dramatic pout. “I’ll sit next to you.” His face instantly lights up, big smile on his face as if a frown had never been there to begin with.
He’s setting you down now, hand on the front door handle before turning to you again.
“also if you EVER open your own door around me again there will be severe consequences,” He says with the most serious voice and look on his face, before placing the sweetest kiss ever on the tip of your nose, and opening the door for you.
You’re kind of stood there baffled, before you let out a small laugh again and sit down in the passenger seat.
Jason’s got his hand on your thigh with yours above it while he’s driving, Roy’s sat in the middle in the back and leaning on yours and Jason’s seats to talk to you both, and everyone’s happy.

Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley’s a meanie. At least that’s what everyone says when you ask them. Except when they ask you.
He scares the life out of everyone on base. All the other soldiers are too terrified to even look his way, all too scared to have his piercing eyes snap towards them. All except you (and a select few, Johnny has always been a bit too cocky for his own good), you who seeks them out, who gets lost in them like they’re a galaxy holding the most beautiful secrets, taking in every small blue speck in his brown eyes.
He’s imposing, takes up space like he means trouble, like he means danger. Which he does, even you could agree with that. Yet everyone calls him a dog, a dog with a sharp skills and even sharper teeth. A dog who will bite and keep biting until the end of his days. But there you are, calling him a puppy.
And the truth, is that he is. He doesn’t even try to disagree with you, because he truly, irrevocably, is with you.
Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley, most terrifying man on base, sending rookies and privates pissing their pants with a single look, follows you around like a puppy, like you’re the only thing that can lead and control him, like you’re the only thing that matters in his world. Which you are. Everything you ask of him, he does, executes with a perfect precision that makes even Price a bit annoyed he can’t get the same out of the behemoth of a man.
You’re the only one that can touch him, the only one that can control him that well, the only one who can talk to him in the biggest baby voice while pinching his cheek, and he’d still look at you with all the admiration he holds for you. He doesn’t even try to move away, because truthfully, he’s right where he wants to be.
Days are spent following you around and being your perfect, most loyal, and loving dog. Nights are spent in your bed, soft words and touches exchanged as his head finds solace on your chest where your heartbeat sings the most beautiful lullaby he’s ever had the luck of hearing.
Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley is truly gone deep, smitten between your gorgeous laugh and soothing heartbeat he finds himself living by. He seeks you out like he can’t live without getting a glimpse of you, and you seek him out just as much.
Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley is a dog, a loyal puppy to you and only you, and everyone on base couldn’t be more terrified of his teeth than they already are.
something something, jason inhaling food no matter what you make him and whether he’s a fan of it or not.
you can make this guy a cake with a fruit he doesn’t like, and he’s still eating the whole thing like it’s an equivalent to ambrosia. but! he’s complaining the whole time.
now, he’s not complaining saying it’s bad, no no. he’ll compliment your cooking because it’s still good, amazing even, but my god will he make it obvious that he still doesn’t like this fruit.
let’s say you make blueberry pie, and that jason doesn’t really like blueberries.
“this’ so good,” he’s mumbling in a gruff voice through his full mouth. “i don’ like blueb’rries tha’ much bu’ this’ so good.”
“why do you keep eating it then lovie?” you’re stifling a laugh, watching him scoff it down.
“‘cause ‘s good! ‘give it like a 7, ‘cause ‘don’t really like blueb’rries. maybe a bi’ more, ‘cause ‘s so good.” his mouth is still full as he’s finishing his second slice.
i just think he’d love absolutely anything you make him, food, crafts, whatever, even if it’s a bit burnt on the sides, or it a bit wonky. he’ll cherish and appreciate everything because you made it for him.
Jason Todd, who can style his own hair very well, in his and in other’s opinions, but who has you who can always style it just the tiniest bit better.
It always looks fluffier, curlier. It sits better on his head, frames his face just right. It goes a bit on his forehead, but never gets into his eye. It smells better (maybe because you use your shampoo, and you choose the products, and Jason will always love to smell like you) and over all, it’s just better when you do it.
Queue your wedding day. You’re both stressed, though way too excited for either of your own goods. And Jason’s hair just.. doesn’t look right. It looks off, like it’s missing something. He wouldn’t lie and say he didn’t use your shampoo, because he did, because he always does now. So his hair smell good, great even (only because it smells like you). He didn’t bother hiring someone to do his hair, he could do it very well himself. So what was missing?
And Jason, the sweet boy, is stressing out of his mind. He’s pacing in front of the mirror, murmuring things amongst this day having to be perfect. And nothing else, because it’s you.
And Dick is just looking at him so apologetically because he gets it, from when he got married to Kori, weddings are stressful, especially your own.
And Jason doesn’t notice, of course, how Dick is staring at him (partially because he currently too busy trying not to rip his hair out on his wedding day with the love of his life, and partially because he’s avoiding the look Dick is giving him that roughly translates to “you’ve grown up so much and I’m so proud of you” because he knows he’ll cry more than needed if he sees it). He stays relevantly silent before muttering words Dick really can’t miss. And it’s almost like Jason panting, like he’s on the verge of breaking.
“I wanna.. wanna see them… I.. I gotta see them.”
And he turns to look at Dick with this urgency in his eyes. One Dick can’t ignore whatsoever. And he leaves, immediately. Goes to get you. Because he can’t ignore his baby brother’s worries, he can’t just let his first baby brother break in front of him (again).
The hair stylist is putting the final accessories in your hair, when Dick bursts through the door like he ran here. You don’t startle much, used to his and his family’s shenanigans. You look at him with a questioning look, and all Dick can murmur through him catching his breath is:
“Jason needs you.”
And you’re up in an instant, apologising to the hair stylist, who is immediate to understand, as you rush to your love’s changing room.
You don’t go in, you and Jason having agreed to not see each other before being ready (a difficult task for the both of you, but you know will be worth it). Dick passes you to get in, to let Jason know you’re here, and to help him cover his eyes, because he knows his brother would be upset if he disrupted your agreement with each other.
Makeshift blindfold on, and you’re inside in a second, soft hands cupping Jason’s gorgeous face, looking over him worryingly. Dick leaves to give you some space in the meantime.
“Hiya lovie, what’s wrong?”
His hands come up to hold your wrists. “I just..” he takes a deep breath. “My hair doesn’t look good no matter what I do, and it has to be perfect cause today has to be perfect and, and-“
You cut off his rambling with a light kiss, a pout immediately forming on his face after.
“Do you want me to do your hair lovie?” You know he likes it when you do his hair, and you’d do anything to make him feel better.
“Please?” His voice slightly breaks, and so does your heart.
“Always sweets,” you whisper softly, pressing light kisses to his cheeks, one to the tip of his nose, and finally to his lips. “I’m gonna help you sit down okay? I can’t do your hair when you’re this tall.” You laugh a little as you bring him to a chair, and he cracks a small smile.
Though you didn’t have all your usual products, you had enough to make his hair look just right. You and Jason laughing and smiling like the two love birds you are through the whole endeavour. And if Dick was able to sneak a few pictures, and recounts this exact moment in his speech later, you know both you and Jason will cherish this memory forever, beyond death and all.
would anyone believe me if i said i wrote this while my plane was being delayed? yeah idk either i was bored and yeah :P
anyway this boy is my heart and soul i need to take a big chomp out of him he’s so precious
Simon 'Ghost' Riley x gn!Reader || fluff fluff fluff fluff i love fluff
warnings: people being drunk (in a silly way), that's about it :]
content: The lads need to bring a drunk Simon back home after a night at the pub. Kyle thinks he's stepped into a different universe.
~ 2.7k words !! || title: 'Potion' by Djo ❤︎ || ao3
Ghost doesn't get drunk easily. At least that's what the team's always thought.
He's usually the one to drive everyone home, barely affected by the few drinks he had. Usually, him and John are hauling Johnny into the car, while Kyle stumbles behind them, giggling like a mad man at the way the two are manhandling the Scot.
But tonight? They don't know what's gotten into him. All three of them had to put the effort to haul the brute into the backseat, while he mumbles and babbles nonsense about… missing something? Someone? Not that they can really understand, his voice being muffled by the crooked mask on his face.
It's once they're in the car that Kyle realises that… they don't actually know where Ghost lives. Sure, Price has to know, but he's off himself, eyes blinking slowly every so often in the passenger seat. Kyle opens his mouth to ask Ghost himself, but ultimately shuts it back up when he sees how he's leaning on Johnny and babbling away, hands moving in front of him like he's telling an elaborate story only he is privy to. He turns to his captain, and tries his best to coax directions out of him despite his tired and slightly woozy state. Luckily, he succeeds!
Driving to Ghost's house was utter hilarious chaos. Johnny starts singing at some point, Price joining in. Ghost is still muttering nonsense, all while swaying to the songs his teammates are singing. He groans every so often, like he's sick of whatever seems to be troubling him so much to talk non-stop about it. Kyle tries his best to drive straight and not laugh too much, and risk something happening to all of them.
Arriving at Ghost's house is odd. They're in a place Kyle doesn't really know of, a nice cottage just far away into the countryside that there wouldn't be too much noise, but still within adequate travelling time, and most likely walking time as well if the small paths through the trees indicated anything for Kyle, to go back to the main city. Honestly, he didn't really think Ghost would live in a house like this, but then again, he doesn't know much of Ghost's life at all.
Sure, he knows how Ghost takes his tea, a dash of milk and a single sugar cube, he knows how Ghost is on the field, quiet and deadly, and how he holds his gun with an air of boredom but with insane precision. Yet, he doesn't know if Ghost would have any decorations in his house, or if he'd have a nice house like this one at all. He doesn't know the breakfast he might prefer, nor the music he truly likes, or what he does in his free time.
Seeing the house first, he thinks — and realises — that he doesn't really know Simon, at all. He makes a mental note to fix that, to try a bit harder to soften the man turned brute, to give him more shoulders to lean on when the world's too loud.
The next thing Kyle notices, which makes him all the more confused, is that lights are on in the house. And he doubts Ghost would leave this amount of lights on for a pet if he had any, and he doubts Ghost would allow himself a pet if he was gone a lot of the time.
He stops in front of the house, and hesitates a moment. He feels a part of himself doubting John, but he perseveres anyway. He could never afford to doubt his captain.
Soap and John keep on singing as the car stops and Kyle opens the door. He's able to haul the both of them out on his own, the action shaking them out of their musical trance. The three put all their effort into lifting the gruff brit out of the car, though not without the Scot's constant drunken giggles.
Ghost seems as though he'd rather stay in the car than go to his presumed house. Kyle isn't able to tell why though, he still can't make out what Ghost could be saying. It's all muffled and mumbled nonsense, somehow more saddened than he had first been.
They're able to make it to the door, though with much trouble. Kyle shushes Soap and John, and turns to Ghost to slowly speak.
"D'you have your keys, Ghost?"
Simon tries to shimmy away from the hold he's in, but with very little force, almost like a petulant child.
"Nooo, no, no, no… don't—" he hiccups slightly, "—don't wanna.. not 'ere— L'vies not 'ere.." Kyle's not sure what (or who) he's talking about, but he's sure something has to be here, considering certain rooms have lights on. Ghost seemed to have not taken notice of those yet, not that Kyle thought he would in his current state.
Kyle sighs, he's too lazy to search Ghost, especially with how wiggly he's being, so he turns to the door, takes a breath in, and rings the doorbell, because there is no way someone isn't inside with that amount of lights on. Maybe Ghost had a roommate, made things cheaper for them.
A dog barks lightly, echoing slightly through the house. He hears something hit against what he guesses is furniture, hearing a faint "Slow down Maise!" through the door.
The ruckus stops after the command, and the door opens.
"Hello? Can I help yous— oh," You begin before you fully take in what's behind the door. You notice Simon before anyone else. He's still trying to stumble out of the two other men. Your eyes then drift to Kyle, and you take in the full scene, with slight surprise. "Oh, hello."
"Hi, erm…" Kyle looks too nervous for a soldier, he's not sure what's gotten into him then. He clears his throat, and shoots a glance back at his teammates, then back at you. "Does Simon Riley live here?"
You smile at him, and glance at Simon. "The big guy there?" You ask loud enough for Simon to potentially hear you, all while feigning clueless-ness. Simon's incoherent scrambling slows, and he starts to lean against Price by his side. He's slow to lift his head up at the familiar name, trying to figure out where it came from.
"Yeah..," Kyle responds sheepishly, a small chuckle leaving him as he awkwardly scratches his neck.
"Yeah, he lives here," you smile, and look towards Simon. His head is lifted now, and he's looking in your direction, though he hasn't seemed to fully take you in yet. He's squinting.
"Oh, grand. Could I ask who you are—"
"L'vie!"
Simon shoots straight up from where he's leaning on John. He stumbles a bit from the speed, and immediately starts trying to make his way towards you despite his seeming inability to walk straight. He stumbles forward, bumping into Johnny on the way and into Kyle, who tries to stop him from falling. You're watching the scene go down with barely contained laughter.
Simon stops only once he's in front of you, and he's leaning against the doorframe like he can't hold himself up (which he can't). His hands come up and cup your face, slightly mushing your cheeks together, and he presses a big wet kiss to your lips. You lightly and jokingly push his face away once he pulls away from you.
"Beh! Simon, you taste like bourbon!" You laugh as you turn your head away from him, sticking your tongue out in fake disgust. He tries kissing you again, though you evade him, and he lets out a mumbled mix of a sort of whine and a groan as he shoves his face in the crook of your neck.
"'s no' Simon… 's Si'… 's bi' guy…," he mumbles against your skin dramatically mournful, like you saying his full name instead of his nicknames was worse than any nightmare (which for him, it is).
"Yeah, yeah, you're alrigh' big guy," you mumble to him as you press a small kiss to the side of his head, your hand coming up to gently run through his grown out buzz-cut.
Kyle is stood a few steps away, staring at the both of you like a deer in headlights. He honestly doesn't know what he expected, if he really expected anything, but it certainly wasn't this.
He's not making a sound at all, genuinely speechless. Johnny on the other hand, had it different. He gasps loud after it, like it took him a bit too long to realise with the alcohol in his system, and then, starts cheering. It snaps Kyle out of his trance, and makes John chuckle, trying to settle the Scot down despite his slightest woozy state.
Kyle stares a bit longer before his mouth opens, but his words aren't too coherent either.
"Wha— Who— Huh?" He lets out a bit helplessly, looking between you holding Simon, to John whose trying to calm Johnny, and then back to you.
You look like you're about to burst out laughing at the scene in front of you, but somehow you're holding it in quite well.
Simon, then, stands back up next to you, of course not without stumbling (you try your best to keep him up despite his size), and holds you like you're a prize he's most proud of.
"'t's mah lovie!" He exclaims like a kid showing off a drawing. You laugh next to him.
"I'm his partner," you clarify with a cheeky smile to Kyle. He blinks twice and nods slowly. He takes a minute of silence to gather his thoughts before opening his mouth.
"Sorry, I'm err… a bit surprised," he says sheepishly again, still shocked at this new information. "We err… didn't really know." Awkwardness is oozing out of him like sap out of trees.
"I'm aware," you laugh again and pat Simon on the arm. "He's been meaning to tell youse, but this meathead's been pushing it off. Youse should come for tea this week," You smile softly at him, talking in a way that wouldn't rush anyone, wouldn't disturb too much. You're sure it's a lot to take in for them, or at least the one most sober. John and Johnny have gone back to doing shenanigans that are fortunately not too disturbing.
Kyle nods dumbly. He looks between you and the two men behind him.
"Yeah… That'd be good," he looks back at you sheepishly. "Think I should get these two bellends back home." He chuckles and you join him. John and Johnny have started singing another drunk song, fortunately quieter than in the car.
"Better do so. Send a message to Si when youse get home. Want youse safe enough to properly meet youse at least once," you smile, but he can tell there's underlying seriousness in your words. He nods and salutes you like you're his captain giving him orders.
He turns to the two behind him, and tries to rally them up. "Right, up you go, get in the bloody car." They stumble to it, Johnny giggling like a madman, John following behind him. Kyle turns back to give you a nod and a wave, before getting in the car himself. You reciprocate, and turn to Simon to try and shove him through the door.
"C'mon big guy, let's get you to bed, yeah?" Simon follows you, not without leaning on you with half his weight. He hums against your head as you walk to your bedroom.
Unfortunately for you, it's not that easy to get him to bed, at least not in his current state. The moment you made near the bed, Simon's going down and he's taking you with him. He's laying on his back with you on top of him, his arms liked chains keeping you from moving. You yelp as you're pulled down, and Simon grins big.
"Hi," he lets out bashfully, starting up at your face with unfocused eyes.
"Hello Si," you smile down at him, your hands coming up to gently push his hair away from his forehead, caressing it softly.
"Thought you weren' gonna be 'ere tonigh'," he frowns then, a slight whine to his voice, "Sai' y'weren'." You'd told him a while back you weren't going to be home after he came back from this deployment, having to go visit some friends and stay with them to help them move cities.
"'Know Si, took less time to move than they thought," you explain gently, moving your thumb so it could caress the skin between his eyebrows. His eyes flutter shut the the feeling, and he hums. "Wanted to surprise you," you say as you press a light kiss to his nose. You stay like that for a minute or so, before you try to move.
"C'mon lovie, lets get you changed, yeah?" As you speak, Maisie, your german shepherd, comes to nudge his thigh, most likely wanting some scratches herself and to be able to go to sleep at the foot of your bed knowing the both of you are safe and sound asleep there. Simon groans a bit, and tightens his grip slightly. "If you get changed, we can lay properly in bed, and I'll give you a buncha kisses," you suggest, chuckling slightly at his insistence. Simon hums as if in deep and important contemplation before ultimately loosening his grip. You chuckle again, press a chaste kiss to his lips, and then got up. You make your way to your dressers, and take out a pair of his sleep joggers before making your way back to him.
"C'mon, up-up lovie," you murmur, and help him up the best you can. He does, and you help him out of his clothes with some difficulty and get him in his sleep joggers. You lead him to the bathroom best you can and get him to at least brush his teeth before leading him back to bed, and under the covers.
"See? That was all quick, weren' it?" you mumble softly, carding your fingers through his short blond hair as you settle next to him, his arms around you once more. He groans and grumbles as he buries his face in the crook of your neck. Maisie jumps on the bed and shoves at Simon a few times with her muzzle. Simon brings his hand out on instinct, and Maisie shoves her head into it, getting all the pets she wants until she's satisfied. You smile at the sight, and bring your hand out when Maisie makes her way towards you once she's had her fill of Simon. You've always loved this little tradition she'd started, always demanding pets before sleep, every night without fail. You press a small kiss to the top of her head with a loving "Nigh' Maise" before she settles comfortably in her own bed at the foot of yours. You lay down properly next to Simon again, and he's looking up at you now with half-lidded and unfocused eyes.
"Ah love y'u," he mumbles incoherently, but you understand him nonetheless.
"I love you too, you dimwit," you chuckle, pressing two kisses to his forehead.
"Hmmmm, ah'll marry y't'morro'," he add sleepily against your cheek, "Wanna marry y'now." You snort at his words, playing with his hair as you hum.
"Y'will one day, big guy," you murmur, but your comment goes unnoticed as Simon starts to snore loud next to you. You laugh, and slot yourself against him like a matching puzzle piece.
The boys do come over that week for tea, not without Simon's light grumbling. You know he doesn't mind, because he doesn't try to stop it. He lets it happen, and you know he's having a good time by the glint in his eyes. He's got you, Maisie, the people he chooses to call his family, for now, he couldn't ask for more.
Kyle loves the decorations you've got up, Johnny loves your cooking, and John can't seem to get up from the couch.
You wouldn't ask for anyone better to surround your big guy.

“No, it’s fine, I’ll be fine. Don’t worry too much lovie, I’ll just cover it for the night.”
“Nope, nuh uh, not happening.”
Jason would NOT be having you sick on his watch. Not if he could ever help it. You should always be in top health, mental, physical and emotional, always. It’s what he lives by, almost acting as his motto, as it’s what you wholeheartedly deserve, that, and so so much more. (That he would be more than willing to give all he owns away to fulfil, if you’d let him.)
He approached you near your bed, where you were setting the pillows up for comfortable positions, and effortlessly picked you up bridal style. You yelped quietly, quickly moving to hold onto him.
“What are you doing?” You asked a little breathless, and a bit more confused.
Jason stayed silent as he carried you to the bathroom, and placed you back on the ground. He guided you effortlessly to sit on the closed toilet seat.
“Jay, lovie?”
“Hm?”
“What are you doing?”
He was rummaging through the cabinet under your sink, before he found the hair dryer.
“I’m drying your hair.”
Once the dryer was plugged in, Jason turned to stand behind you. He turned it on to its lowest setting and started to quietly dry your hair, and somehow does it just the way you do. You’ve got a small tired smile on your face as you let him play with your hair. He motions you to lean your head back, and you do so, with eyes looking up at him with all the adoration you can muster.
“Thank you Jay.” You say softly and tiredly, just loud enough to be quietly heard over the noise.
“Always, sweetheart.” He leans down to press a soft kiss to your forehead with a smile on his face.
Once your hair is dried to his satisfaction, he picks you up again, and goes to place you back in bed, where he joins you.
You’ll fall asleep in his arm, you comfortable and him worry-free, and exchanging sweet and tired words and whispers of “i love you”s.
And if you have to wet your hair and dry it again in the morning because of frizz or having to style it, you don’t mind, because at least you know you have someone that will dry your hair at midnight when you’re too tired to.
inspired by this post’s jason todd part by lovely @queen-of-gotham !!
Maybe playing uno was a bad idea. Well no, not necessarily bad, because he did have an absolute blast laughing at your misery of losing, but bad because he didn’t think you were actually going to follow through.
And maybe he was lying when he said he’d be able to survive.
Jason knew this wasn’t exactly serious. That there was no bad blood, or any argument, but god, did this feel horrible.
When you’d gotten home after a dinner at the manor, showered and changed, you smiled so sweetly at him like you weren’t offering the most challenging thing in the world for him. Looked at him with that sweet grin, a devious look in your eyes, and voice oh so sickly sugary as you said:
“You said you’d survive sleeping on the couch right?”
And now Jason’s here, back uncomfortably pressed to the couch, head propped up by a flimsy decorative pillow, the throw blanket you usually have on your shared bed over him as he stared at the ceiling, trying to deal with the fact that he couldn’t smell you, couldn’t feel you.
He turned to his side, trying to forget it, trying to stay strong. Until he couldn’t.
If anyone asked, he’d blame it on the itchiness of the couch against his skin, the too-hard pillow, the chill that stayed in the living room at night no matter what. When really, he just missed you.
Which is what brought Jason to dragging the blanket with him back to your bedroom. Steps silent as ever, until the door creaked slightly.
You, on the other hand, laid all comfortable in your big bed, with one of Jason’s soft shirts engulfing you entirely. Under warm covers and propped against your pillow, you were on your phone, quietly murmuring a small tune as you scrolled on it. Your LEDs were on, giving the room a soft orangey glow, giving enough light to move around if needed.
You heard him before the door creaked. Even if he was quiet, a part of you always sensed him.
You didn’t look up immediately, being a bit evil and letting the silence stretch out until Jason shuffled in the door way.
You looked up, and there he stood, door almost wide open, on the verge of the comfort that was your bedroom. He had the throw blanket clutched in his hand, half of it still dragging along the floor, staring at you like a kid who just had a bad dream and wanted his parents.
When you finally looked up at him, his frown deepened a bit.
“Hi?” You spoke, slightly confused.
He stayed quiet for a beat longer, before his voice came out, shy and quiet, “…Can I come back?”
You let out a small chuckle, even if your heart broke a bit. “Jay, lovie, it’s been 5 minutes.” You didn’t think much of it, but when you looked back up at him, he looked like he was on the verge of crying, eyes all glassy and bottom lip wobbling just enough to notice through the distance.
And your resolve (and heart) just broke, entirely.
“Come here, you big baby,” you said, with a chuckle and small shake of your head as you lifted the blanket for him.
You don’t think Jason’s ever moved faster before. He immediately flops down on you, a small oof comes out of your lungs as he’s burying his face into the side of your neck and wrapping his arms around you, throw blanket fully discarded on the floor.
You giggle while placing the covers back down over him, your arms coming to wrap around his shoulders with one hand buried in his hair.
“What happened to ‘I’ll survive’ hm?” You teased as you pressed a kiss to the top of his head.
“Mm-mm,” he mumbled with a small shake of his head, “…never again.”
You laughed again, and held him closer.
Those might’ve been the worst 5 minutes of his entire life (you think he’s being a bit dramatic but oh well), but at least now, he gets to sleep with all his senses being filled with nothing but you.
a/n: this is entirely self-indulgent. I won’t lie about that LMAO, I don’t know if this happens to other skin tones, so I am terribly sorry it won’t be as inclusive as I want it to be (I try and make my writing as inclusive as possible for anyone!!). I am white and my skin is very sensitive when I scratch it, so this is very common for me, so I apologise for those who are looking for inclusive skin tone stuff :(
pairing: Jason Todd x gn!reader in mind, though Jaybin does use “ma” because even if I’m agender, I have a soft spot for him saying that
genre: fluff, kind of slice of life
words: 1k -- should be okay but tell me if there's any mistakes I missed!!
summary: Jason spots red marks on your skin, gets super worried, and won’t stop asking if you’re okay.

You stood in your kitchen, scratching your upper arm for what would be now for the better part of 5 minutes. The noise of sharp yet shorter nails running against skin filled the room, or more so your ears, as you waited for that faint ding of your microwave. The milk filled mug turning in circles as you absentmindedly waited for the timer to hit zero, your fingers running over your skin without you realising. Hot chocolate was always nice company while you waited for Jason to come home. Your brain was starting to blank out more and more while the soft electronic hum of the microwave mixed in with the sound of nails against skin, your eyes slowly losing focus on the dark wooden floor. Maybe you could—
Ding!
Your hand stops its constant up and down motion on your arm, your nails scratching the skin for one last time before you moved off of the counter to retrieve your mug. Your mind blanked once more between the time you got the cocoa and sugar, and the time you were already sipping on your finished drink. And then Jason was back.
He’s tired. He’s tired and he wants to be in your arms more than anything. But at least he’s home soon. At least he’s only tired and not badly hurt. And as soon as he’s held safely in your arms, he’ll be home.
Now, Jason just wanted to go back to your apartment, change and shower, and have the best sleep next to you. But then, of course, some stuff had to go a bit sideways (he’s being a bit dramatic).
What he comes back to instead is your gorgeous self in the kitchen, mug in hand, with big, red, extremely red, marks on your arm. It was worrying. Your skin flaked off a bit, and was red. And his mind went off.
“Sweetheart?” His voice came out a bit cracked as he hurriedly took his helmet off and placed on your table. He was quick to be by your side, your arm gently held by his hands, as if you were a precious jewel he was trying everything in his power to not damage.
You, mind still somewhat blank, shook awake out of your trance. A smile came up on your face as you set the mug down.
“Hi Jayjay,” you spoke softly, your voice portraying perfectly your tiredness. “How was patrol? Are you hurt?” A small worry took over your face, but you knew he’d be acting worse if he was badly hurt.
“Sweets, sweetheart, it doesn’t matter if I’m hurt,” his voice was pure worry, his eyes and body the same. “You’re hurt, what happened to your arm? Does it hurt a lot? We should put ice and cream on it. How’d you get it? Did someone do that? I swear to everything if someone did—” He’d started rambling, moving around the kitchen as his hurried words matched his hurried movements. He’s looking around cabinets and drawers, looking for that cream he’d mentioned, though it never resided in the kitchen to begin with. You just stared at him in confusion, unsure of what he was rambling about. Once his anger came out, showing that side of him that would about hurt anyone for you, you cut him off with a soft sweet laugh. He stopped dead in his tracks, and turned to look at you.
“I’m serious ma, did someone hurt you?” He asked again, a pout on his lips, though his demeanour had softened because of your laugh.
“Jay, hun, I have no idea what you’re on about,” a small sheepish smile formed on your face, as he frowned again. “Your arm, ma.”
You looked down at your arms, finding one significantly more red than the other, accompanied with some scratch marks. You were stunned, because when did that get here? You stared down at it for a moment, all the while Jason’s worry was worsening.
“Are you sure it doesn’t hurt ma?” He asked once more, before jumping back into action. “I need to find you that cream.” He hurriedly started looking through the drawers with a determination to not see you hurting anymore.
You kept staring at your arms as the puzzle pieces clicked together in your mind. And when the picture was done, you couldn’t help yourself but laugh.
You tried calling out to him through your laughs, though he wouldn’t listen.
“No, no! You’re hurt ma, can’t let you be hurt.”
“Jay— Jay, please look at me,” you said between giggles. “Jason.”
Hearing his full name made him stop and turn to you with a pout. You’d so rarely use his full name, it was always a nickname, a pet name, anything different. You’d only use it when he had to listen to you.
“Yeah?” He mumbled quietly, looking at you with that sad pout on his face, his voice so full of worry and care. His boyishness always came out in moments like this.
“Oh hun,” you chuckled, taking a step towards him to cradle his face in your hands. He leaned in on instinct. “I was just scratching my arm, see?” You smiled sweetly, demonstrating it by running your nails against your forearm. Few seconds after, and red-ish scratch marks appeared on your skin, following the path your nails took. Your hands found his cheeks again, as you pressed a kiss to the tip of his nose. “I’m okay, baby.”
Jason gently gripped your forearms as he leaned in closer to you. He gently turned your arm around to examine the marks, who were already disappearing, the big splotch of red on your upper arm already almost entirely faded, to a much lighter colour. Only then did he let out a big breath, wrapped his big arms around your waist, and buried his head deep in the crook of your neck, now breathing you in. Your arms wrapped around his neck, a hand slowly racking through his hair.
You both stayed like that for a while, holding each other, breathing them in.
…
“Can’t believe you got scared because I had an itch.”
“Shut uppppppppppp”
A long playfully annoyed groan merged with laughter in the quietness of the apartment.
again, this is entirely self-indulgent lmao, this happens to me way too much, I'll barely scratch my skin and then there's red marks on my skin for a good MINUTE, it's annoyinggggggg
I hope you guys enjoyed it, even if it isn't as inclusiv as it could be (which I am again sorry for)
I've been gone for a short minute, real sorry, I've been super busy with school and I essentially shouldn't even have been writting this in the first place considering I'm in exam season but I couldn't help myselfffffff
