Hi I just wanted to say i love ur bad batch reader insert posts!!! Do you think you could do one of how they respond to the reader's body image issues? Thanks so much for your service š
Author's Note: I'm sorry this took as long as it did!! I hope you enjoy this!
Hunter: Will pick up on certain things. He gets a feel for what's bothering you when you don't respond to his compliments. It's only at particular times, and he'll finally decide to tentatively ask what's going on. He'll listen to whatever it is that you're insecure about patiently, but is right there with reassurance. He knows that words can only go so far, but now that he's aware, he can be more intentional about it. He's nurturing and supportive without coddling.
Wrecker: Is in absolute disbelief when you tell him about your insecurities. He's rather comfortable with himself and loves who he is despite things that others have taunted him for, and he adores you. He chuckles warmly after your confession and assures you that you're absolutely beautiful. He doesn't want to undermine your feelings in any way, but hearing his chuckle, knowing that something that seemed so major to you wasn't that big of a deal to him helped.
Tech: Can't quite understand at first. You are loved by the Bad Batch, and you have his love, so why were you struggling with it? He comes to understand when you explain, and his no-nonsense way of responding ends up being quite sweet and romantic. Tech is not one to fudge facts or skirt around the truth, so his compliments and assurances are genuine and straight from the heart.
Echo: If anyone could grasp body image issues, it's him. In front of others, he took his own changes in stride... but every now and then, he'd let you in on the truth that deep down it is still a struggle. What he can't grasp is why you feel the way you do when you are so absolutely gorgeous and make him feel like the luckiest guy in the galaxy. He lets you know on the daily just in case you weren't sure.
Crosshair: He listens in silence as you tell him your insecurity. When you've told him, he pauses for a few seconds and utters, "you done?" He'll tell you straightaway what he thinks, that you are beautiful and how you make him feel like he has to protect you. He's not one for words, but he continues to let you know in his own way how important you are to him with gestures of affection.

Summary: Who could know that a simple night out with your friend would lead to this? A life of danger and the man of your dreams.
Echo x Communications Officer Reader (gender neutral). Friends to lovers/star-crossed lovers.
A.N: First off I would like say I'm so sorry (!!!) this took so long to get out to anyone interested in this series! If I'm being blunt, I've been feeling rather discouraged over my Echo content. But, I still adore this man and have so many ideas on where to take this series, so, thank you to everyone who shows interest in this story! I appreciate the reblogs and comments so much!
Secondly, the emotions of this chapter got away from me and before I knew it I was 3k words deep, so I'm warning you now that this is a heavy chapter, but I promise the sweet reunion and happy times are coming! I promise

Part One /// Part Two /// Part Three /// [Part Four coming soon]
There was nothing to mourn.
Thatās the reality that hit you hardest.
The clones gave everything to the republic, to the people, to the war, and they got nothing in return. You had always known that, of course. The debate of clone rights and personhood was always a raring topic since the start of the war, not that the question of their rights should be a debate at all. You had always known they were dealt a shitty hand in life, but it was never more apparent than now.
Now that there was nothing of your sweet, brave Echo to mourn.
There was no funeral, no last rites, no medals or flags given in his honor, not even a damn word of thanks for his sacrifice. His brothers would grieve for him, of course, perhaps the Jedi who had led him too, Echo had always spoken fondly of Skywalker, after all, but his brothers had no means to mourn. Not really. And no other family could offer you their shoulder, no mother or father, no one but soldiers who werenāt allowed to wear their sorrows on their sleeves.
There was nothing of Echoās to mourn, nothing but the messages and pictures he had sent you.
They were the only proof of his existence, of his memory. That he wasnāt another number, that he was sweet and charming and smart, that he was awkward and rule-following and so damn caring. He had worried so much about his brothers, about them being remembered, and now, these communications were the only remembrance of him, of your Echo.
Eventually, you had to force yourself to stop looking them over for hours every night. Stop yourself from hoping that you would get one last comm from him. One last picture of his dorky smile, of him and Fives causing havoc. One last call to tell you he missed you, to tell you he loved you.Ā
Echo had loved you.Ā
And you, oh, how you had loved him too. You had fallen for him fast and hard, and now this pain was the unyielding ground at the end of that fall.
Work was your only solace. Work was an escape, a place where your mind couldnāt wander, couldnāt focus on the grief, couldnāt muse over your loss, your work was too important for that.
Mavis was your anchor, she gave you space and distractions in a good balance. Space to be alone so you werenāt just cramming your feelings in a box all day, and distractions when she knew you needed something that wasnāt work or grief.Ā
You werenāt proud of the way you were careless with your drinks at the bar on those nights, but somehow, you couldnāt find it in yourself to care most of the time.
Days turned into weeks. The war stretched on, and death tolls rolled in every day, just numbers, faceless, dehumanized numbers. Just like your Echo.
Weeks turned into months. Work continued, a decryption there, a few lives saved here, small victories, victories that helped your pain. Each one was for your Echo now.
You had always taken pride in your work, pride in doing your part to ease this war, to win battles, but now this was just an extra layer of it, pride that you could help the brothers he had held so dear. It helped, and those around you started to notice.Ā
Eventually, it got easier to smile throughout the day, and you started to feel less guilty over that ease. Though, you still couldnāt crack jokes quite like you used to. At some point, your trips to the bar became less about drowning your sorrow and more about spending time with friends. Though, you still recoiled every time someone tried to flirt with you.
You hoped that things could get better.
The trouble was that no one told you that hope was a dangerous thing.
A sigh pushed itself past your teeth as you leaned back, rubbing your eyes to wash away the imprint of data streams behind your lids. Just a few more hours and you could go to that nice dinner Mavis had invited you to. It was a decent day, and you felt like eating.
The break from your work must have caught attention because someone cleared their throat beside you. Moving only one hand, you cracked an eye open toward the noise. It was Taan, a young and brilliant decrypter who had been placed under your care until he learned the ropes enough to work on his own. He was holding his data pad with a question burning in his eyes.
āYeah, kid?ā you asked, fighting a yawn.
āDo you have a minute to look something over?ā
Silently, you sat upright again and waved him forward, letting your other hand drop.
He paused for just a moment, thought, then must have decided it was now or never, āDo you remember last week, when we decrypted that resource update?ā
āYou mean the one from the techno union, advertising their fancy new battle tactic algorithm?ā
āYeah, that one! See, I was taking another look at it, andā¦something doesnāt fit. It bothered me the first time we looked at it, but we were too busy relaying the new information to command for me to think about at the time, but now I looked it over again andā¦ā Fingers tapped on the underside of the data pad as he bit his lip, then he shoved it towards you, āhere just look for yourself, look at the developer signatures.ā
You did as asked, eyes going to the bottom of the page where the techno union had listed the people involved with creating the algorithm. If you werenāt so used to decoding the various numeric-heavy code names those tech creeps used, it would have looked like gibberish. Wat Tamborās was the only code name you had memorized and without your key, you werenāt sure who the others wereā¦.expect.
Your chair gave a creak as you jolted forward, a little shocked.
āSee it?ā Taan was trying to contain his excitement at your reaction, obviously glad he wasnāt going crazy.Ā
He wasnāt. There, right in the middle of the long list of contributors, was a strange name, not coded like the rest. āT1b3rā It only had two numbers, unlike the others, meaning it had to be using a different cipher. Among the dozen confusing names, it was easy to miss.
Your mind was working overtime and you didnāt answer the kid quite yet as you pulled your chair back to your workstation, fingers dancing away at your desk unit. That didnāt stop Taan from rambling in your silence.
āI ran it through our other keys but it still didnāt make any sense, then I thought, maybe this guyās using a whole new code we havenāt cracked yet? But in that case, why? Like why sign your contribution and make it harder to recognize your name and-ā
āThatās because itās not encoded at all,ā you offered, āor at least, not a complicated code.ā
āHuh?ā
āYou play Alderaan Gambit at all, kid?ā
Taan hummed, āYou mean that weird, over-complicated version of holochess? No, not really.ā
Since your quick search on the net confirmed your suspicions, you leaned back in your chair again, āWell, one of the elements of the game is capturing each otherās pieces and holding them behind your āenemy lineā so to speak. The pieces arenāt just removed from play, they stay on the board and there are all kinds of strategies players can use to win the game with them. You know what those captured pieces are called?ā
He shook his head.
āTibers.ā
Taanās eyes went wide, āT1b3r!ā he snatched his datapad back from your hands, āSo⦠you donāt think thatā¦?ā
You hesitated, pulling your lip between your teeth, āThat one of our own is being used behind enemy lines? Yeahā¦maybe.ā
A fist slammed against your desk, nearly hitting your keyboard, and a growl pushed its way through your teeth. It was late, much later than you usually stayed, and well past your shift. You had told Taan to go home hours ago, insisting that you could wait for the response alone.Ā
After your litter discovery, you sent it up the chain of command and leveraged your reputation to get the report marked as a priority. You knew there was a chance that, even if they did look it over today, that they may not see what the two of you saw.
The response to your report was clear: there wasnāt enough evidence to warrant further investigation.
If you werenāt running on so little sleep and half blind from staring at the screen of your desk unit for 12 hours, you might have been able to see their point. It was, admittedly, a weak connection. There were countless languages and cultures in the galaxy, so even if the code name was meant to spell out āTiberā there was little reason to think it was in reference to a strategy game and not just a birth-given name.
But still, something just didnāt sit right with you. Something was off, you could feel it in your gut, and after years of trusting your gut to stay alive, you werenāt in the habit of ignoring it.
You rubbed the corners of your tired eyes, hoping to alleviate the pressure growing there. The supervisors werenāt any help to you now, but you werenāt ready to let this go just yet. You just had to think- think of who you could go to for another opinion!
After a moment, your head jerked back up, eyes still stinging as they met your holoscreen again. A quick search in the GAR records would give you your answer, they kept close track of what battalion was where at any given moment. It was serendipitous, or maybe it was fate telling you that you were right to push this further, either way, you practically lept from your chair when you saw that the 501st were currently on Coruscant.
Even if you could let this go until tomorrow (which you couldnāt), you had to go to them tonight, they were shipping out for Ringo Vinda in the morning to aid Generalās Tiplee and Tiplar.
You were already clocking out with the Corrie guards on duty before you realized you werenāt even sure who to contact or how. A part of you felt like you knew the men of the 501st, especially Torrent company.Ā
The number of times Echo had talked about them, all the pictures he sent, the videos he recorded of their antics, they felt like old friends. Echo had wanted you to meet them all, mentioned all the time of plans for you to join his brothers on shore leave the next time they came home. A chance you two never got.
There was a sudden shake of your head as if that could brush the spiraling thoughts away. You had to focus, this wasnāt about your lost chances.
You thought about asking Mavis for Fivesā comm code, but that felt a little trange. So, instead, you checked the time and, when you realized drinking hours were just starting, you headed for your speeder bike.
You hadnāt been back to 79ās since the night you met Echo. When you two were together, it was simply because there were other bars you and your friends preferred more and now that he was gone, no one even dared mention the name of the place.
It wasnāt nearly as hard to walk in as you thought it would be. Though, that was mostly due to the fact that you were avoiding looking at any of the patrons in armor for too long. That wouldnāt last forever, of course, the whole reason you were here was to talk to someone who had the same face as him.
There wasnāt much wandering needed before you spotted a group in blue, downing shots and making a general ruckus at the bar. You recognized the large tattoo on one of them and actually smiled to yourself. A picture came to the surface of your mind, one with three of Echoās brothers standing in a smoke-filled kitchen. The corner of Echoās laughing face had been beside the caption: āThey were betting on who the better cook was. They all lostā.
Again you had to tamp down the feelings welling up inside and once you had, you marched to the bar. You tapped on the armored shoulder, just before he grabbed another shot.
When he looked over his shoulder at you, you said, āAre you Jesse?ā
He arched an eyebrow, then turned to face you fully, eyes scanning up and down, āHey, you arenāt a clone.ā
āObservant one, arenāt you?ā
That made him smirk, āJust not used to seeing natborns in those uniforms- but yeah, Iām Jesse, whatās your name, hot lips?ā
You opened your mouth, but it wasnāt your voice that called your name, instead, a hand gripped your shoulder and you turned to see Fives with concern written on his face. The moment you saw him, something that wasnāt there when you looked at Jesse gripped your heart, but like the other emotions, you swallowed it.
āFives, is your captain here? I need to speak with Rex.ā
His eyes narrowed, āRex? Why?ā
You hesitated, and the moment you did, Fives handed his drink off to someone else and guided you away from the heart of the ruckus (leaving Jesse ignored and a little bewildered).
āI just need to talk to him. Something was brought to my attention at work today and I think he might be able to help me.ā
Again, Fives just stared at you, but when you only answered him with a hard stare, he sighed. āRex is having a drink with Commander Bly,ā he jabbed his thumb towards a two-seat table near the corner. Before you could shove past him, however, his grip on your arm tightened a bit. āHey- just hold on a sec, will you? Can I at least ask how youāre doing?ā
You didnāt miss the way he tried to duck into your vision, to lock his gaze with the eyes that were avoiding him. It wasnāt his fault, the emotion welling up inside, but you just couldnāt bring yourself to look at him. Fives was just too wrapped up in everything that reminded you of him.
But, he still deserved an answer.
āIāmā¦better. Things arenāt perfect, but,ā with a calming breath, you looked up as close to his eyes as possible, focusing on all the little details of his face that distinguished him from Echo. āBut theyāre better.ā
You knew he was staring at you still, maybe searching your face, maybe looking for signs of a lie or cover-up. After a moment, though, he sighed and straightened up. āAlright. Hey, before you leave, tell me, Iāll walk you home, okay?ā
A smile flickered across your lips, Fives really was sweet, despite his playboy bravado. After giving his arm a gentle squeeze, you moved past him toward where Rex and his friend sat. As if by fate, the other man, Bly, got up before you closed in, heading for the bar for another round.
Rexās gaze flicked up from his empty glass when he caught your movement in the corner of his eye.
āCaptain Rex?ā
āYes, may I help you?ā he asked, looking you over.
You held your hand out, and when you gave your name, his eyes widened. So, he did know of you. That made sense, Echo once said that he ābraggedā about you every chance he got, even to his captain. Before Rex could say anything, however, you got to business, āIām sorry to interrupt your evening, Captain, but I need your help with something, do you have a moment?ā
Rex didnāt hesitate, after casting a eyes to the bar and sharing a look with someone, presumably his friend, he waved for you to take a seat.
āDid you receive the report on the Techno Unionās new battle algorithm?ā you asked once settled in the seat. He nodded, and so, you explained your situation, your theory, and what brought you to it, and how the higher-ups didnāt think it important enough to investigate.Ā
When you finished, Rex continued to stare at you for a moment, then, āAlright, so why have you come to me?ā
āBecause I-ā you paused, mind faltering. You had a reason, of course you did, but how to put it? Your eyes dropped to the table for a moment, you thought, then darted your gaze back up to his with a sign, āMaybe I just want to know if Iām wasting my time. Captain, do you think a trooper would send a message like that? Or am I drawing conclusions where there arenāt any?ā
For a moment, all Rex did was stare back at you, maybe mulling over his answer, maybe considering you, personally. Maybe both. āI mean, itās possible. Anything is, I suppose. It would have to be a clone with advanced training, like a commando, or an ARC, and of course, to even know the reference to a tiber piece, theyād have to be familiar with Alderaan Gambit in the first-ā
Rex cut himself off, mouth clapping shut and eyes going wide again.
Thatās when it hit you too.
āEcho,ā you breathed, mind connecting this line and that rapidly. āWhy didnāt I think of it before?ā Something warm flickered in your chest, something small but blooming as you thought over the possibility of your beloved.Ā
Hope. It was a spark of hope.Ā
Your rambling continued as the blanks filled themselves in, āEcho used to talk about how he played Alderaan Gambit with- with you, Rex! How you used to come up with battle strategies together while playing. If he was captured, maybe they realized his strategic skills, and now-!ā
The spark was fanning itself by this point.
āNow heās trapped, somehow forced to help their own battle strategies. But heās too smart to let them get away with it.ā
āStop.ā
āAnd not to mention his ARC training would include advanced splicing, which heād need to hack into their reports to alter them. He would have all the skills to send us a message. And he would-ā
āStop!ā
The sharp firmness of Rexās tone caught you off guard, words fumbling in your mouth as your mind came to a screeching halt. When your eyes snapped up to his, a hard expression that had taken over his features. It softened a little, but his gaze said it all and you felt oddly chastised under it.Ā
Echo is gone. Echo is dead.
That spark in your chest dimmed.
Then, Rex sighed and placed a hand on your shoulder. āYou canāt do that to yourself, little one. Believe me.ā He paused for a moment, perhaps thinking, maybe collecting himself. āYou canāt⦠hold on to the dead. It will tear you up inside more than anything. More than the loss, more than the grief, even the memories. Holding on will hurt you most in the end.āĀ
The hand tightened a little, almost affectionate, almost⦠paternal. His eyes were soft and full of years of hard-earned experience. Years of his own grief, of his own loss.
āEcho wouldnāt want that for you. He would want you to let him go, so you can heal.ā Rex let his hand fall, gaze fixed on his drink again and you found that you were swallowing a sour taste in your throat. āWe all have to move on. Itās the only way we can survive.ā
The lining of sorrow in his words was the water that doused the remainder of that spark. Hope melted away like snow on skin and it stung just the same.
Again you found yourself choking on something in your throat; the bitterness of rising tears.
The way Rex kept his eyes unfocused on his hands said all that needed to be said, so you stood rather abruptly. āIām sorry for taking up your time, Captain. Enjoy the rest of your evening.ā
You thought he might have tilted his head back up to you as you turned to leave, but you couldnāt find it in yourself to care. Besides that, he didnāt say or do anything as you walked away. There was a ringing in your ears as you went, and suddenly, wading through the crowd of patrons made your skin feel like it was on fire.
Everything was too loud now, the music pressing in on your ears, the lights burning your eyes. You felt dizzy as something else stung your eyes, that sour taste thickening in your throat as you burst through the doors. The stale city air did little to calm you, and you found yourself staggering to the side, trying to find any sort of privacy as your chest clawed itself with pain.
You had just ducked behind a row of speeder bikes when the tears broke free, a sob ripping your throat apart from the effort of holding it in. The sound bounced off the side of the building and echoed down the alley, just as the tears soaked into the permacrete without a care.Ā
The grief that had gotten better rolled over you like a tidal wave. Once again it pulled you under as if you hadnāt made any progress at all.
How could you be so stupid? How could you think that he was alive, that he had defied all odds and sent you some secret message? This wasnāt some romance novel, love and hope couldnāt change reality. Death didnāt just reverse because you begged it to. Stupid stupid stupid-
Once again your mind stalled as arms, warm and gentle, closed around you. Someone guided you to sit, calling your name so softly you almost couldnāt hear it over your own ragging thoughts. A hand tucked you close to an armored chest as they started a slow rocking motion with your bodies.
Stunned, you looked up past the armor and through the tears to find the kindest brown eyes you had seen since your last call with Echo.
Fives tucked your head under his chin, still rocking you as he rubbed your back and repeated his assurances.
The waves came again with a vengeance and this time, you let it happen. You curled into his embrace and wept, tears and sobs coming without restraint. It didnāt matter how long you two sat there like that, Fives held you the entire time. It didnāt matter that he was shipping out in the morning, he spent his night comforting you through every moment of the reopening wounds.
Hope was a dangerous thing. It hadnāt been a spark inside you, it had been a fire.Ā
The Bad Batch lands on the tropical resort planet of Spira. Ā A contact of theirs is helping you all out by letting you lay low in a private beach house on one of the islands. Ā You and Echo have been secretly dating for a little while, and you hope to make the most of the romantic setting.

Ā Ā āI think Iāll stargaze with Echo.ā
Ā Ā The man in question cleared his throat, nodding in an attempt to look casual.Ā āSure, Iād appreciate the company.ā
Ā Ā The others didnāt react, save for Wrecker who couldnāt seem to hold back the grin that spread across his face as he glanced between the two of you.Ā Crosshair gave one of his signature eyerolls and stood from the wicker chair heād been occupying, tossing his toothpick in the nearby trash.
Ā Ā āIām heading out.ā
Ā Ā āSee you later,ā you called.
Ā Ā Hunter and Omega grabbed their things before going off in their direction toward the village.Ā Tech exited the bungalow with his nose buried in a holopad.Ā Wrecker passed by you, giving you a playful nudge on his way out that had you shaking your head.
Ā Ā āUnbelievable,ā you muttered after heād gone.Ā āAfter all the painstaking trouble we go through to keep our relationship a secretā¦ā
Ā Ā Echo stepped toward you, a warm, flirtatious smile playing on his lips as he entered your space.Ā āAbsolutely painstaking,ā he uttered, taking your hand in his. āIt is very difficult to stay away from you.āĀ His lips hovered just inches from yours, breath fanning your face.
Ā āYeah?ā you murmured back.Ā āTo be so close, and yet so far?ā
Ā His warm brown eyes glinted at your words.Ā āSounds like you know the feeling.ā
Ā Ā āOh, I do.āĀ You closed the distance to tenderly press your lips against his.Ā Echo leaned into it, sliding his hand from yours to reach up and cup the back of your neck and draw you closer.Ā He tilted his head to meet your lips again before pulling back to see your lovestruck expression.
Ā Ā āWe have a little time before the stars come out,ā he said.
Ā Ā āReally?āĀ Your lips curled up in a cheeky smile.Ā āIām already seeing stars.ā
Ā Ā Echo chuckled.Ā The low rumble was music to your ears.Ā You loved how his body shook slightly with the action, and the way his eyes crinkled at the edges in soft amusement.Ā His hand brushed along your jawline.Ā āYouāre something else.ā
Ā Ā He wrapped his arms around you, enveloping you against his chest.Ā You rested your head on his shoulder, feeling his chin settle on you, and listened to the thrum of his heart.Ā Youād been watching him all day in the sun, stealing subtle looks of affection, waiting so patiently for this moment alone.
Ā Ā Now that it was there, you were sure to bask in it.Ā Like turquoise waves sweeping over the sand, his embrace smoothed over your lot of cares and your longing.
Ā Ā āIāve missed this,ā you whispered against him.Ā Echo hummed in agreement, his hold not letting up for even a moment.
Ā Ā The sun began to descend, casting an orange light through the windows of the bungalow.Ā The bright blue sky gave way to shades of strawberry and marigold.
Ā Ā āHow about we set up before it gets dark?ā you asked.Ā Echo nodded, though he didnāt let go of you just yet.Ā Your heart pounded in your chest as he melded his lips against yours once more in a heated dance.Ā With a small peck, he pulled away, taking your hand.
Ā Ā The two of you went down the porch stairs to the shed where Echo said heād seen the telescope.Ā There was a stack of folding chairs in the back, so you grabbed two of those while Echo hauled the telescope out.
Ā Ā You found a spot on the beach where youād have a nice view of the open sky.Ā The sun continued to sink beneath the horizon in a brilliant display of color that spilled into the shimmering water.
Ā Ā The rush of water was more gentle in the evening hours, kissing the shore instead of crashing the way it did around midday.Ā A breeze whispered through the air, warming your skin like another embrace.Ā Ā
Ā Ā Echo dug into the sand to make sure the telescope was sturdy and wouldnāt topple over on the uneven surface.Ā While he was busy with that, you made a dash for the bungalow to grab a little snack and a few blankets.
Ā Ā By the time you were both ready, the first stars had already become visible.Ā The sun disappeared behind the ocean, and the vibrant colors sank into a deep indigo.Ā Echo inserted his scomp into a slot on the telescope, calibrating the device and directing it toward the moon as it began its own climb higher up in the sky.
Ā Ā He peeked through the eyepiece, scomp turning once more to focus the lens.Ā āThere it is.ā
Ā Ā You joined him at the scope curiously.
Ā Ā āTake a look at that,ā he said, stepping aside so you could see.Ā āAmazing.ā
Ā Ā You leaned in to peer through the eyepiece, squinting a little as your gaze adjusted.Ā Then you saw it.Ā The moon was full and almost perfectly round, close enough that you could see the rocky texture.Ā Your eye wandered the darkened spots that marked craters on the expanse.
Ā Ā āWow,ā you breathed.Ā āWhat a beautiful moon.āĀ You stepped back to look at the moon through your own perspective again, marveling at the difference.Ā From where you stood, it simply looked like a glowing ball of white.
Ā Ā āIt sure is,ā he mused, leaning in to get another look.Ā āYouād think that seeing this stuff would get old, but it never does.ā
Ā Ā āI hadnāt thought of that.āĀ You folded your arms as you gazed at the sky.Ā āWe do see stars a lot from the ship.Ā Somehow, they look totally different from down here.āĀ A particularly luminous star caught your attention, twinkling and glimmering like a gemstone.
Ā Ā Echo followed your gaze.Ā āThey do.Ā Itās a wonder.ā
Ā Ā Another breeze tickled your skin, ruffling your clothes.Ā You exhaled softly and let your eyes fall shut at the sensation.
Ā Ā You felt an arm slowly slide around your waist, and you leaned into the contact.Ā āDo you like this, or camping in the woods better?ā
Ā Ā āBoth are fun,ā he replied.Ā āIām not much of a beach man during the day, but thisā¦I could get used to this.Ā Feels like a dream.Ā You know, the last time I was at the ocean, Fives got pinched by some crab.āĀ
Ā Ā āReally?ā you chuckled at the image conjured up in your mind.
Ā Ā āHe complained about it the rest of the day.Ā Was worried that some toxin was injected even though Kix checked him out and said he was clear.ā
Ā Ā The two of you laughed at the story and a few others as the night stretched on.Ā Eventually, Echo had spread out one of the blankets onto the sand so you could cuddle up to him, both folding chairs and the telescope forgotten.Ā He draped the remaining blanket over you both to keep in the warmth as the air grew cooler without the sunās rays.
Ā Ā Kisses were exchanged.Ā Stories were told.Ā Time flew.Ā Before long, you heard voices of the others in the jungle behind you, signaling their return to the bungalow.Ā Though you and Echo strived to keep your relationship secret, at that moment, neither of you made a move to separate.Ā You figured if someone happened upon you, then that was that.
Ā Ā But fortunately, no one came wandering back onto the beach, so you were able to simply enjoy the time.
Ā Ā āI just saw a shooting star!ā you said suddenly, jumping a little.Ā Echo craned his neck to try and get a better look.
Ā Ā āI missed it.ā
Ā Ā āIt was so pretty.Ā Maybe another one will come along.ā
Ā Ā The moon was shining brightly overhead, washing the beach in silver light.Ā The air had gone from pleasantly cool to chilly in the early hours of morning.Ā Both of you decided to go inside and get some sleep.Ā It would be another full day tomorrow of sunshine and excitement.
Ā Ā You grabbed the blankets and snacks while Echo brought the telescope and chairs back.Ā All was quiet inside the bungalow as you snuck in the front door.Ā Everyone was already fast asleep in their rooms, unable to hear the creak of your footsteps on the wooden floor.Ā
Ā Ā Echo walked you to your door, pausing to take your hand and lean in.
Ā Ā āIāll see you in a few, milady,ā he whispered.
Ā Ā There he went with that term of endearment that made you swoon.Ā You melted into the goodnight kiss he bestowed upon you, goosebumps blooming along your skin as he deepened it.
Ā āGoodnight,ā you murmured.
Ā Ā āGoodnight.ā
Ā Ā With that, you disappeared into your shared room with Omega.Ā She was a sleeping bundle atop her bed, completely oblivious to your arrival.Ā You slipped into your own bed and curled up, falling asleep to thoughts of Echo.
(The Bad Batch) Preferences- You Tell Him He Makes You Feel Safe
Wrecker:Ā His broad chest would puff out as he grins, but on the inside, he would melt at your words.Ā The macho act would last for about two seconds before you can count on him getting all soft.Ā It would really mean a lot to Wrecker, and heād show it by pulling you close to gaze down at you with tender eyes, giving you delicate kisses that quickly got more intense.
Hunter: Ā He can already tell you feel safe with him.Ā He notices the little things, how you let your guard down a little around him because you know heāll protect you.Ā Even so, hearing you tell him that he makes you feel safe will do something to him.Ā Hunter would give you one of those rare smiles, brow raised, as he wraps his arms around your waist and pulls you closer, saying, āyeah?āĀ Expect some heated kisses.
Tech: He wasnāt entirely sure why, but the statement makes him feel so very manly.Ā Heād subconsciously puff out his chest a little as he walks over to stand directly in front of you.Ā The whole squad was composed of individuals that were strong and skilled, but you telling him he made you feel safe?Ā Him specifically?Ā It made Tech feel special.Ā Heād smile and lean in to kiss you right then and there, whispering that he would keep you safe.
Echo:Ā This man would definitely melt at your statement.Ā Heād be putty.Ā If he was in a particularly grumpy mood because of the squadās antics, and you caught him off-guard with that, the things that made him gruff would be quickly forgotten.Ā Your statement would make Echo feel like a man.Ā Not just any man, but the man.Ā Be ready for some kisses the first moment you had alone.
Crosshair: Heās a man of few words, so he takes them seriously. Ā If you told him that you felt safe with him, Ā that would basically be the equivalent of an āI love youā in his book. Ā It would mean a lot to him, and he might not know how to respond verbally right away, but Crosshair would definitely show you what it meant to him with kisses. Ā Just a warning: if you dropped this statement in the middle of a kiss session, he would go feral.
(āRegsā and The Bad Batch)Ā What They Call Their SO
(OC Request:Ā Hey, Rainy!!! š I was wondering, could you pleease do some HCs/whatever of nicknames the "regs" and Bad Batchers would use for their lovely ladies?)
āRegsā
Rex: In the beginning he is rigid and doesnāt call you anything but your name out of fear heāll accidentally let it slip in front of someone else.Ā Eventually he warms up to the idea and starts calling you sweet things like ādarlingā or āloveā when youāre alone.Ā
Cody: Heād have a few up his sleeve, usually something specific to you.Ā (ex. āMy brown eyed girlā if you have brown eyes, or āblondieā if youāre blonde, etc.).Ā Although sometimes heāll simply call you ābeautiful.ā
Fives: He LOVES terms of endearment both for himself and for his SO.Ā He uses a few classics like ābabyā and ābabeā or sometimes āgorgeous.āĀ When heās in a particularly good mood, heāll call you āmy one and only.ā
Wolffe:Ā He thinks of one that suits you and sticks with it, usually saving it for rare occasions and also when heās in a very good mood or is worried for your safety.Ā Something surprisingly tender like āflowerā or āsweetheart.ā
Howzer (because why not?): He likes classically romantic names like āmy dear.āĀ On rare occasions when heās feeling more relaxed, heāll call you ābabe.āĀ One time he tried ābabyā and it sounded so strange coming from him that you both cringed, but then you laughed it off.
Bad Batch
Hunter: He has a few, each for different moods.Ā When heās feeling particularly affectionate, heāll call you something romantic like āstar.ā Other times when heās addressing you more casually in private, heāll call you āsweetheart.ā
Crosshair: Doesnāt use terms often, but when he does, he calls you āmine.āĀ Sometimes heāll use variations with that attached, like ādarling mine.ā
Echo: Heās a gentleman and will call you āmiladyā when others are around, but when youāre alone he likes to use something more intimate like ālover.āĀ
Tech: He is quite into terms of endearment and definitely goes for the romantic ones like āloveā and ādear.āĀ Heāll sprinkle them into conversations every now and then, though isnāt super excessive- just enough to make it special.Ā
Wrecker: He definitely uses ones like ācutieā or āsweetieā pretty often.Ā When heās in a more romantic mood, heāll throw in a ābeautiful girl.ā

(The Bad Batch) Preferences: How They Feel About Affection
(OG Request: Request for how bad batch would try to be sneaky for sexy time while with their significant other?
Heyo! I keep my blog SFW, but I have to say that I do like exploring the idea of the guy's attempts to be discreet about affection in general and kissy kissy, so I made preferences to kind of cover that.
Thank you for the request!
Hunter: Feels he has to set somewhat of an example of professionality, so he is extra careful about that sort of thing. Definitely does not want his squad to catch their sergeant in the middle of a kiss session. Wrecker for sure wouldnāt refrain from some jokes about it, so Hunter prefers to be discreet. He shows affection with his eyes, often shooting you a loving gaze or meeting your eyes to roll his playfully when the squad is acting up. He saves kisses and embraces for when youāre alone, usually when the others are off the ship or asleep.
Crosshair: He is super private about these matters. The thought of anyone catching him is mortifying, so he is extra careful about engaging you in kisses. He isnāt overly affectionate in general when in front of the others. He hovers; close enough to protect you and let you know heās there, but far enough to avoid a lot of suspicion. When it comes to kisses, he likes to save them for when the others for sure wonāt bother you, when theyāre off the ship or sleeping. You know heās having a bad day if he pulls you aside to a secluded part of the ship for some kisses even when the others are around- sometimes he just needs you that much.
Wrecker: This man has many strengths, but subtlety is not one. He tries to keep things on the down-low; however, it definitely doesnāt always play out that way. Heās a very affectionate person. We see him on screen playfully punching or wrestling his squad quite often, and with a significant other, itād be difficult for him to not hold their hand, give them affectionate nudges, or wrap them up in hugs often. He does try to refrain from kissing until youāre alone, but he forgets and letās it slip sometimes. He gets a little too caught up in the moment if heās happy to see you or is relieved youāre safe after a mission.
Tech: Contact with you in front of the others is minimal, though not exactly nonexistent. Itās the small gestures; placing a hand on the small of your back as he squeezes past you from behind on the ship, touching shoulders when sitting next to each other, or other little things like brushing your hair from your eyes or adjusting your gear before a mission. With so many people aboard one ship, he expects things to happen. He expects at some point the two of you would get caught in a kiss session, so he doesnāt get too flustered about it; though he still tries his best to be discreet.
Echo: He strives to be discreet. Part of it is just him being a gentleman, and the other part is his insecurities. He doesnāt want his relationship to be on display, some sort of oddity for others to gawk at, considering what heās been through and his change in appearance. The squad would definitely be respectful (aside from Wreckerās good-natured teasing), but Echo still feels like heād rather keep things private. He is quietly affectionate, sometimes taking your hand and looking into your eyes. When it comes to kisses, he wonāt do it in a common area where anyone could walk up at any point, but he doesnāt mind pulling you aside if the others are preoccupied.
(The Bad Batch + Rex) How Heād React to a Survivalist SO
(Authorās Note:Ā Totally inspired by @kamino-mermaidĀ !!!
Hope you enjoy!)
Ā Ā Rex:Ā This manās respect for you is already up there, but it grows even more when he discovers you know what to do in a survival scenario.Ā He has basic knowledge and skills about situations should he ever end up in one, just like any soldier, but the next step almost seems to come naturally to you.Ā Heāll watch you in awe from behind his helmet as you gather materials for an effective shelter or drop random plant names and uses into conversations.Ā He snaps out of it and offers up assistance in the most professional way, but when the two of you are alone heāll ask more questions and compliment you away from prying eyes.
Ā Ā Hunter:Ā Heād be pleasantly surprised when he found out.Ā Cue him raising his brow whenever the two of you are in a rough situation and you jump right in with the knowledge of what to do.Ā Youād told him that it was something you were into, yet he hadnāt been prepared to actually witness it.Ā As a matter of fact, it makes him even more attracted to you.Ā He has basic survival skills to prepare him for any scenario, but your level of knowledge impresses him.Ā Hunter will ask you questions and absorb information you have to spare because he finds it extremely interesting and useful.
Ā Ā Crosshair: Heāll act like itās no big deal, but heās actually quite impressed.Ā It becomes a favorite pastime of his to watch you organize your gear and tools for the next mission in case things get rough.Ā Every now and then, heāll ask a question about the gear and listen as you explain what itās for because itās genuinely interesting to him, and he wants to know more about your hobbies.Ā He greatly appreciates that you know how to handle yourself in different situations, though he still doesnāt mind coming to your rescue.
Ā Ā Wrecker:Ā He is absolutely amazed when you come forth with all this knowledge of survival.Ā You can count on him asking you what random plants are and throwing different hypothetical scenarios at you because heās just so fascinated.Ā When it comes time to put your skills to use in the field, Wrecker loves watching you in action and will soak up any information in case heās faced with a similar scenario.Ā He will also shamelessly drop a brag every now and then about how smart his gal is.
Ā Ā Tech:Ā He likes to be the guy with all the answers.Ā Logically, he knows itās impossible to have all the answers, but still.Ā Upon realizing you have more extensive knowledge about survival in different situations, heād want to read up about the subject to engage in discussions with you.Ā If you have information that conflicts with his intel, you might butt heads a little, but in the end he has an open mind and doesnāt have a problem with admitting heās wrong if he discovers it to be true.Ā Tech will enjoy stepping back in survival scenarios and letting you take the lead with information for the team.Ā He finds it very attractive watching you in your element.
Ā Ā Echo: He is impressed and not afraid to tell you right off the bat.Ā He finds it very attractive that you can handle yourself in tough situations.Ā Even so, he is always very attentive when youāre sharing information with the group.Ā With how crazy things get travelling with the Bad Batch, Echo appreciates the concept of being prepared for whatever things you may face.Ā Itās just another reason why he thinks youāre so smart and so beautiful.
(The Bad Batch)Ā He Goes Clothes Shopping With You
Ā Ā Hunter: Doesn't mind going, though he isn't entirely sure at first why you'd want him going along. When you say you want his opinion, and being a part of the Bad Batch doesn't mean you get to go often, he understands and is on board. He spends the beginning of the trip following and just watching you browse since you seemed to know what you were doing, giving his opinion only when asked. After he gets a feel for the kind of stuff you like, he'd start to branch out a bit and go find stuff to show you. Sometimes he's a little clueless about what matches or goes with what, but you appreciate the effort he puts into it, and he takes mental notes if you tell him a certain fabric won't work or you're not fond of a certain color. The trip is overall pleasant, and Hunter tells you he wouldn't mind going again.
Ā Ā Wrecker: Would be excited because it was a new experience. No one ever asked for his opinion on clothes before. He'd be pretty into it right from the start, offering up lots of suggestions and going "_________! What about this?" a lot. At first he may not quite get your taste, but after he gets a feel for what you prefer, he'd actually be the one to bring you some great finds. Wrecker would be enthusiastic and make loud compliments, making the other shoppers giggle at how cute the two of you were. He may or may not need reminders about the budget because he goes overboard with suggestions.Ā At the end of the trip, he carries all your things like a gentleman and takes the opportunity to show off his strength.Ā Make no mistake; heād definitely want a fashion show after the trip to see how everything looked, and definitely wants you to bring him again another time.
Ā Ā Tech: Heād ask if you actually needed him to go along.Ā Itās not that he doesnāt want to go.Ā He wouldnāt mean any offense; he just has a list of other things that need to be done.Ā You insist that his opinion really matters, and that would make him smile a bit.Ā āI suppose I could use a break from all this anyway,ā heād say, pushing up his goggles.Ā He doesnāt hesitate to make his thoughts known, and that is the same during this task.Ā Heāll stay near to you but break away a bit to find a few things to present to you right.Ā Tech almost always has reasons behind his choices.Ā āI think this one would bring out your eyesā orĀ āThat one would complement your figure.āĀ That being said, even though he has a lot to say, he believes that how you feel about the clothes is most important, and he only offers opinions to be helpful and not pushy.Ā He lets you know that he wouldnāt mind going along again sometime.
Ā Ā Echo: He'd act a little gruff at first. Part of him feels like as a man and a soldier he has to act just a tiny bit grumpy about tagging along on a shopping trip (especially in front of the rest of the Bad Batch), but really it doesn't bother him. He'd follow you around, and you can count on him giving an honest opinion, though always in a nice way. He does have pretty good taste as far as what looks good on you. "What about this? This is nice." It would be kind of adorable to see how invested he'd get over the course of the trip.Ā He also gets excited about finding nice stuff on sale. Ā He nods his head in silent approval when all the discounts flash across the register screen.Ā At the end of it, he'd go back to pretending to be a little grumpy, claiming the trip wasn't too horrible and that he'd go with you again.
Ā Ā Crosshair: It takes some convincing to get him to go at first. To him, standing in the middle of a clothes store would be a blow to his manly pride.Ā Eventually, heād realize that plenty of males do it, and he'd go. He'd follow you around closely at first, hovering but not super invested. Everything you asked him about, he'd shrug or seem indifferent, though on the inside it's only because he feels he doesn't know the first thing about clothes. Instead, he'd be watching the entrances and keeping a lookout for danger as you shopped. At some point, his attention would wander from his surroundings to you holding up an outfit in front of the mirror, and he'd quietly comment, "that would look nice on you." From there he'd give his opinion more often and openly, especially when it came to something he particularly liked.Ā After the experience, he would be more comfortable and invested in the shopping trips to come.
