Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, âThus far the LORD has helped us." I had been thinking about that verse in Samuel and then, during a recent Sunday service, we sang Matt Redman's song, "10,000 Reasons", which includes the line, "10,000 reasons for my heart to find." In earlier posts on this blog (here, here, here and here) I've shared some of the things I've seen God do in my life that remind me that "thus far has the Lord helped me." Listening to the song I was struck with the wild idea: could I list 10,000 "Ebenezers" on this blog to encourage others?'' Perhaps I could by myself, but it would be all that I'd be doing and there are other things I want to feature here as time goes on. Besides, if I just listed the things God has done for me, folks might think it was just because God likes me best! No, what I want you all to understand is that God is constantly doing things to show Himself alive in our lives - sometimes even unasked. So I hit on the idea of challenging friends and contacts - and readers of this blog - to send me one-sentence descriptions of miraculous acts and/or revelations God has given them. The first batch that came in is featured below. In some cases these have been edited for brevity - but nothing has been added! I want to keep these short so they are easy to browse. I'm happy to read your story, but what I'm after is the headline. After all, ultimately I hope to collect 10,000 of these! One can argue theology and doctrine for one's education and enlightenment, but there is nothing more edifying and effective in my mind than personal testimony. Miracles are things that God does; doctrine is often our attempt to explain why He does what He does. Some of the statements that will be included here over time will challenge you. Some will inspire. Some may even seem bizarre - as bizarre, perhaps, as a blind man being healed by spit and mud, or a donkey talking to a prophet. Consider each as a witness, as something to stretch you, comfort you, confirm for you that Jesus is the same today, yesterday and forever and is still changing lives, often quietly despite all the loud proclamations of what is "impossible." If you'd like to add testimonies to this list (whether you're submitting for the first time or multiple times), you can leave a comment below and I will include it in a future "Ebenezer" post, or you can email me. My email address begins will three lower-case "L's" to mimic a Roman numeral 3, followed by my first name and the number "2". That is, llljohn2. To complete the address add @msn.com and that should do the trick. (I've had the email for ages and has special meaning for me. I'm the third John in our family, for one. In addition, the scripture 3 John 2 reads, "Beloved, my wish above all wishes is that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers." I've always felt as if I was sending a blessing to someone when I sent them an email. Perhaps the whole reason I came up with that email address, however, is for just such a time as this!
