So, there are a lot of people complaining about this marketing language.
Obviously, the problem is that, while the marketing language is trying to position "Ebenezer" as a story in the style of something like Wicked, or Cruella, where the twist is delving into the villain protagonist character's backstory and pathos -
A Christmas Carol is ALREADY all about delving into the villain protagonist character's backstory and pathos.
So I can definitely understand people being confused and annoyed, because everything the marketing speak is implying is already in the original story, it's not a new addition.
That said, I don't honestly mind it that much? Ebenezer's pathos is my favorite thing about the story, so if they're planning on putting it even more heavily in focus and dwelling on it for more of the movie, I'm all for it.
Really, I do mean what I say when I call it marketing speak though. It's just there to position it to garner the sort of audience that these recent "villain protagonist" stories have and the people who are interested might not KNOW (somehow?) that that's already what the story of A Christmas Carol is all about. So... tentatively, I don't really mind them advertising it this way, so far, anyway.
Did you see Johnny at SDCC interacting with his character cosplays?
I seen the videos! Itβs so good. Very cool Johnny came back in character for comic con again. He hasnβt done that since Gellert Grindelwald :,)
cant believe we're wasting ian mckellen marley on johnny depp shitpost scrooge
Ok, because the new Johnny Depp Scrooge trailer dropped recently, I decided to do an edit of it because I wanted to and to spoof it.
If you're interested, go watch it, I would really appreciate it.
