Leading the Los Angeles Women’s March 01/20/18 with the @eastsidemotobabes . . It was exhilarating to be at the center of this historic assembly of over 600,000 people. Sharing this experience with an inspiring group of women and their motorcycles made it even more profound. Looking around at these extraordinary women with their bikes in a sea of activists cheering for human rights and eradicating intolerance was breathtaking. . As instructed, we lined up our motorcycles in the intersection in front of the stage. People converging all around us, using up every available space was both beautiful and troublesome. While we hoped the demonstration would reach last year’s nearly million, with people so close we would not be able to start up our bikes. . Like last year The March started at Pershing Square and culminated at Grand Avenue Park with a rally. This year the rally began before The March and continued at the end. Moving forward, away from the focal point of the crowd, was futile because there was nowhere to go. The “beginning” of The March had dissolved. . As a team, with kindness and patience, we asked people to step away from the motorcycles and hold the line so when the rally concluded we could start our bikes safely so The March could begin. People responded with understanding and assistance. The open space around the bikes became a stage activated by the tension between the bulging crowd and the anticipation of the speeches culminating when the bikes would roar to life. . Attention suddenly shifted from the stage to the 19 female motorcyclists. We had taken our positions on our bikes and the chants to start them up was intoxicating. When the speeches finally concluded, in controlled unison and with full force, our engines exploded into song and the deep reverberation ignited the crowd with jubilation. . As we gracefully road through the parting crowds, we were greeted with exuberant cheers that radiated the message of love, patience, and tolerance. It was a heart warming and poignant day that was filled with overwhelming excitement and pride. . Thank you for all the amazing documention. . #eastsidemotobabes #esmb #sisterhood @womensmarch #womensmarchla (at Women’s March Los Angeles)
