#easter witches

Old Swedish Easter cards with Easter witches (they were said to fly to Blåkulla on the Thursday before Easter to party with the Devil and his demons). The first card was made by Jenny Nyström in 1913, the second by Sigrid Sundius-Dahlström somewhere between 1930 and 1950, and the third was made by Jenny Nyström and sent in 1903.

The more Original ™ version of the easter witch in sweden was youths dressing up as witches and doing some sheningans during easter

(in the 21th century the people dressing up as witches are often toddler to circa 12 years old. So teenagers/early twenties being the people dressing up as witches for easter a bit different from how it is done today)

These youth witches dressed up in a more masquarede fashion than is done today. Therefore many of them hid their faces with odd looking masks. Wearing a mask also has the benefit of hiding which exact youth Did The Sheningans!
