I absolutely love this book. It makes me want to write again. It makes me want to read more things. It is also making me want to hide from the real world in the internet in ways that I haven’t wanted to in a long time.

Eliza’s anxieties mirror my own in so many ways. The way she just wants to be talking to her friends and left alone is something that I felt so much growing up. I resisted time with my family as well because I didn’t have anything in common with them and didn’t like doing the things they did. 

I’ve forced myself out of that mentality as much as I could as an adult. I have made it into a supervisory position at work where I frequently have to slap on a smile and listen and talk when I’d rather be doing anything else. I’d much rather hide in another world.
