This is an Epenco Gleam fountain pen in brown c. 1937.  This 4 7/8 inch long lever-fill pen is made from rolled sheet pyralin that has embedded metal stars and crescent moons.  The seam in the cap is evidenced by the cut star.  It originally had gold plated trim including the clip, cap band and lever.  This example shows warping and almost total plating loss, unfortunately very common with these pens.  The clip is stamped EPENCO at the top.  The gold plated stainless steel nib is stamped EPENCO over N.Y. over MADE IN over U.S.A.  The Gleam line was announced as new in the 1937 Eagle catalog with pens selling for 25 cents and offered in brown with gold stars and crescents and red, blue and green with silver stars and crescents.  An advertisement in 1938 shows these were still offered that year.  Matching pencils were 25 cents.  

This is an Eagle flat top lever fill fountain pen in red plastic c. 1926-1930.  This 5 7/16 inch long pen clearly was meant to compete with the big red Parker Duofold, even adding a black cap top and barrel end.  The pen dates to the late 1920s because of the patent clip, a design by Benjamin Hanle patented on March 29, 1927, but submitted the previous year.  There are not patent markings on the pen or clip.  The gold nib is stamped WARRANTED over 14K over 8, indicating the nib size.  All the trim is gold filled.  The clip is stamped EAGLE PENCIL CO. U.S.A.  The cap band is stamped 14K GOLD FILLED.  The lever is stamped EAGLE PENCIL CO. and EPCO on the tab.  Late 1920s newspaper advertisements suggest these pens retailed for $1.50. 

This is an Eagle Prestige fountain pen in green striped celluloid c. 1939.  This is the largest size Prestige at about 5 1/4 inches long capped.  It comes with a 14 karat gold Number 6 size nib stamped EAGLE over 14K over MADE IN over UNITED STATES over OF AMERICA over 6.  The pen has a hidden ink chamber unit that does not touch the inside of the barrel which has a small ink sac attached, like a bulb filler.  There are two grommeted holes in opposite sides of the barrel to allow airflow around the ink chamber to keep it from overheating, preventing leaking.  The pen fills by removing the black end cap and pressing the paddle, compressing the ink sac.  The largest size Prestige sold for $7.50 in 1939 and with a matching pencil, sold for $10.00.  The label on the cap says V60 FINE STIFF. 

This is an Eagle bulb fill fountain pen in Green Lustre Pearl celluloid c. 1935-1936. The pen features Eagle's 1935 patented "Visehold" clip design by Benjamin W. Hanle. The celluloid is called Green Lustre Pearl in the 1932 catalog on the Prestige model and is wrapped in an angle twist to form the base tube for the cap and barrel. The ink chamber has clear elements and the long breather tube can be seen inside, which extends the length of the chamber from the base of the feed. It's 5 1/16 inches long capped. The double cap band is actually a single band with a black paint ring, made to look like two bands, and is used on the Prestige model. The cap top and barrel end cap are flat beveled plastic pieces. All trim is gold plated. The large nib, featured on the Prestige model, is stamped EAGLE over 14 Kt over MADE IN U.S.A. centered with a stylized eagle clutching three arrows. There is no barrel stamping. Though there are no markings indicating this is a Prestige model, the pen appears to be a bulb fill version of the Prestige.

This is an Eagle Prestige fountain pen in brown brickwork celluloid c. 1939.  It's rebranded Heacock, with HEACOCK stamped on the nib where EAGLE usually would be and an "H" logo on the clip instead of the EAGLE stamping.  It's possible the pen was made for Heacock & Freer, a jeweler based in San Francisco, California.  The pen has four Japanese characters stamped in the barrel, perhaps a personalization.  This is the large slender size Prestige at about 5 3/16 inches long capped.  It comes with a 14 karat gold Number 2 size nib, this one being stamped HEACOCK over 14K over MADE IN over UNITED STATES over OF AMERICA over 2.  The pen has a hidden ink chamber unit that does not touch the inside of the barrel which has a small ink sac attached, like a bulb filler.  There are two grommeted holes in opposite sides of the barrel to allow airflow around the ink chamber to keep it from overheating, preventing leaking.  The pen fills by removing the black end cap and pressing the paddle, compressing the ink sac.      

This is an Eagle Prestige fountain pen in Burgundy Red and Black celluloid c. 1932.  It's 5 1/16 inches long capped. The cap top and barrel end are beveled. All trim is gold plated. The large nib is stamped EAGLE over Prestige over 14 K over MADE IN U.S.A. The base of the barrel is stamped EAGLE PRESTIGE MADE IN U.S.A. It came in Oversize, Medium and Short versions.  The Oversize Burgundy Red and Black sold for $8.00, the Medium and Short for $5.00.  Matching pencils were $3.50 and $3.00 based on size.      

This is an Eagle bulb fill fountain pen in gray lustre pearl celluloid c. 1935. The pen features a patent applied for version of Eagle's "Visehold" clip design by Benjamin W. Hanle. The clip patent was filed January 5, 1935 and granted November 26, 1935, which dates this pen during that period. The ink chamber has clear elements and the long breather tube can be seen inside, which extends the length of the chamber from the base of the feed. It's 4 7/8 inches long capped. The clip is stamped PAT PEND over EAGLE. All trim is gold plated, though the clip trim is worn off. The nib is stamped EAGLE over 14 Kt over MADE IN U.S.A. There is no barrel stamping. It's operated by removing the barrel end cap and squeezing the exposed rubber bulb until the ink chamber fills.

Similar gray and red celluloid is called Gray Lustre and Pearl flaked with Red in the 1932 catalog on the earlier version of the Prestige. There is no Prestige model in the 1937 catalog, though the nib appears on the top of the line Flash Fill pen, which dates this pen just before that catalog and before the more balance shaped Prestige that follows c. 1939.
