Tokyo National Museum, what a treasure house of Japanese Art, it really is a gem of museology with a fabulous collection, continually changing with exquisite examples of so many periods of Japanese history and art practice. This lovely shakuhachi was on show in the Gallery of Horyuji Treasures, a most mystical museum display and every time I have visited, a very, quiet, reflective space. Highlights of the main gallery for me were: beautiful e-maki lacquer writing case, a new bird pot (lets get rid of borders for the sake of birds), a ceremonial sword tie, a Jomon period dogu figure, a Yoshitoshi 28 Famous Murders with Verse print, a doggie container, a brilliant boar, and Toyotomi Toyotomi calligraphy specifying the number of maids for his mother....I wish i was better at capturing the artist details but I get so carried away by the art, I think I can never forget...
